....Had to use words that demand attention. Pregnant teenagers. Drug-Addicted high schoolers. Illiterate teenagers, deprived of hope. Fourteen year old murderers. In Dayton, Ohio, a man was murdered in the front yard because he wouldn't get out of the next man's chair. Have you watched the news lately? Have you sat and listened to the topic of conversation that amuses the youth of today? NOBODY is listening anymore.
I ain't here to lecture you. Ain't here to tell you how to live your life, cause I ain't living it. As I type this, all that can seem to cross my mind is my momma. She's from the old school, as some would say. She does everything by tradition, and she raised us up to follow tradition. For all of you who don't know tradition, let me inform you. Bow your head, say grace before you eat. What? Go on in the other room. No sitting around a bunch of grown folks while they're talking., Don't interrupt me while I'm talking, unless you say excuse me; better yet, don't interrupt me at all. These with at least a million other traditions made me the female I am today.
I am a part of the next generation. I see my generation for what it is. I see friends who had the potential to make it, but sometimes, potential ain't enough. I see past friends who are now dropouts. I see pregnant friends who only tried it one time and ended up with a lifetime consequence. I see friends who hooked up with the wrong crowd, which caused them to hook up with the wrong drug. A depressed generation. A generation full of basketball players, writers, politicians, doctors---people who, if they would've held fast to their dreams, would've changed the world. They have evolved into dope dealers, prostitutes, and gang members. They have given up their hopes and settled for their reality. I watch our generation with pain in my heart. Wishing everybody could make it up out of their struggle, find endurance, find strength, find determination. Only when I see reality for what it's worth do I have to learn to face it.

This is tragic. I think sometimes that people hope to be drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. When that's all you're exposed to, it's hard not to fall into the glamour of it all.
