Am I the only one who feels bad for Eliot Spitzer?

I know this is old news now, but I'm new and still wanting to fan the flames. Nowhere have I read anyone speaking to Eliot Spitzer's side. Shouldn't he be forgiven? I've known people with shady side relationships and rather than unpack my fire and brimstone, I usually feel bad for them and see their side of things. Don't get me wrong, what they did is totally reprehensible. Everyone is human though.

Even celebrities, politicians and prominent people in our local communities fall prey to the temptations the rest of the population does. I get why we are so quick to scorn and judge, but shouldn't we stop at some point and she the cheater's side? By all accounts, it looks like Spitzer was making a lot of enemies and dealing out plenty of punishment. That was his job and maybe he did it a little too well. But behind the scenes, he was obviously battling his own vices. Isn't that everyone's story? I've got my own vices that I keep hidden from most people.

Is it too hard to conceive of a man who goes after political corruption battling his own inner demons along similar lines? It may be something has battled for a long time and his wife has known about it.

I guess what it comes down to the phrase, "Hate the sin, not the sinner." Either you can separate Eliot Spitzer from his use of prostitutes or you can't.

...with Eliot Spitzer it's not just about what he did. It's about how he ran for office on a platform or morality, and change, and how once he was in office, everything would be different. Yet he continued to break laws and have immoral relations. Not only did he do things that were wrong, but he was supposed to be someone that people could look up to and he turned out to be a hypocrite.

He definitely needs to be held accountable for his hypocritical actions, but that shouldn't be a condition for people to forgive him. So if he goes to jail or pays a huge fine, then people will think justice is served and forgive him? I don't think that. You can't hold out on forgiveness because he acted like a hypocrite. If we're honest with ourselves, we'll admit that we're all hypocrites at times. Spitzer's story might just be juicier and in everyone's face. I've told my students that McDonald's food is bad and they shouldn't eat it, but I've been to good ol' Mickey D's when I had a hankering for a hamburger. So, I'm just as much of a hypocrite as Eliot Spitzer and I hope that people find a way to not hate him so much.

I have no idea how much people hate this man. I'm sort of away from all the news and trying to keep in touch through blogging. I know there are people out there who feel like me, I just don't know if any of them will be on progressiveu...

We don't hate him. I feel disgust that he ran on a foundation of morality when he infact was diving into the cookie jar. A hypocrite is Spitzer and Spitzer is a hypocrite. But I dont hate him, nor do I feel sorry for him. He's a big boy and can make his own decisions and accept the consequences.

I agree with them. He's human and he's going to make mistakes like the rest of them. But he ran on a platform of morality and he knew what he was doing was wrong and he didn't do anything to right the situation. He deserves what he gets, as they say don't do the crime, if you can't do the time.
