5 days and counting! Today's updates: I haven't gotten much actual work done today, just a lot of research and I started packing. I've also started working on blocking out possible questions I'll receive. I did get one speech done about establishing universal health care. Our district wrote this one so I have to go affirmative.
Today's lesson: don't piss off a female on a mission!
I was discussing nationals and debate in general with a friend today whereupon he makes the comment "Why do you care, you can't change anything. I mean, you're a girl."
Did I hear that correctly? Yes, that's what he said. I HATE comments like this maybe more than any other. Who gives him the right to say something like that? Moreover, why does he assume that girls can't be progressive and make change?
Well, news flash buddy, I am "that" girl! I may be a girl that likes to do her nails and put on makeup and talk about boys and watch chick flicks with my friends, but that's not all I am. I'm also a debater and a public speaker. I play in guys' territory, and I like it that way.
To be honest, I always debater better against all guys. And at sectionals for speech I do impromptu and extemporaneous speaking (both of which I've won for the last 2 years) and for the last two years I've been the ONLY girl in finals. So, go ahead, don't take me seriously. But don't be surprised when one day I have you up against a wall b/c you know that I'm right.
It's my mission to change the world, even if only a little. To me debate is how I do that. Our judges are parents, passerby come to see the intensity of the rounds, our word does get out. We talk about real issues that affect America today. So, for someone to tell me that I can't make a change because I'm a girl is like telling me that I'm on Mission Impossible. And I just can't accept that (I'm too hard-headed).
Well, now that I've gotten that out, I must get back to the mission (a.k.a. I have work to do) Stay tuned.
Road to Vegas Day 3: I Am "That" Girl

I have good news the guys in those shows always end up winning safe and happy in the arms of love...SO if your the super hero of sorts then welcome to your mission impossible...you will be a big hit.

Not in my little game they don't. I love the look of humiliation on a guy's face at the end of a tournament or round when they just know they got beat by a girl. Plus, I do kind of feed into it. Like when I walk into a debate round I'm the quiet, friendly, easy to beat girl. Then, when I get up to speak it's like they get knocked on their butts because they totally underestimated me.
I think that more women should stand their ground and show men that we can do things just as well as them.

Do you find it odd that you are not as strong as you once thought?
I hate comments like that. that is rude. Woman would probably get more done then a man would....haha that is being sexiest though and I'm not that way. lol. But we would always talk so there would never be silence. LOL.

Love comments? I do too!
No, really, from my experience we probably could get more done. In physics my friend Kristie and I ended up doing all the manual labor to build our catapult because the 2 guys in the group wasted all the time arguing about how they wanted to do it.

I've noticed that same trend. Guys have a tendency to argue about how things should be done while girls just do it. By the time the guys have finished arguing, the question has already been settled, the work is already being completed, and the entire argument has been relegated to the unnecessary category.
I tend to take those comments as a challenge. Go ahead and tell me I can't do it because I'm a girl... it gives me greater incentive to prove you wrong so I can point and laugh later.
And nothing, absolutely nothing says it quite like a good point and laugh session!

Yep it's true, yet guys think we are the ones that whine and bicker about everything! I don't get it.
Exactly it is a challenge. It just kills me that some girls won't stand up to that challenge and instead they sit submissively in corner when in all reality if you make a girl mad enough she'll knock you on your face, no questions asked.
Oh yes, the point and laugh, I love it!
