Celebrity Skin

I have an online friend who lives in New York City. I was chatting with her the other day and she told me she went to see Elefant play a show. She said, "Guess who showed up?"

I don't know. It's New York City. It could be anyone.

"Lindsay Lohan."

Interesting. I don't know much about the girl except from what my eleven year old niece tells me. Even then, it's not much.

"I wouldn't have noticed her if she didn't come in with two big bodyguards."

Celebrities. Wow.

I live in Minnesota, and we're definitely not known for our celebrities. Prince, Bob Dylan, Mitch Hedberg, The Replacements, Husker Du, Atmosphere, Semisonic, Motion City Soundtrack, Tapes 'N' Tapes, and loads of other talented people live here (or originated here) but they're not treated like "celebrities." We're just proud of them.

The concept of "celebrity" is foreign to me. I'm a midwestern gal, and I don't have "run-ins" with famous people. I'll chat with bands after shows and such, but I don't think of them as celebrities. They're just people who play instruments and tour.

I don't really like the idea of "celebrities." Bodyguards, limos, big fancy houses, being plastered all over the cover of National Inquirer...it doesn't seem thrilling to me. It just seems fake. Maybe it's because I feel like I can't relate to celebrities. I have a boring day job. I'm trying to finance college. I eat Pizza Rolls for dinner. I buy my clothes from Target. I can't relate to someone who has a housekeeper, three BMWs in their driveway, and Versace designing dresses for them for every awards ceremony. That's not real. That's like winning the lottery.

Although Lindsay Lohan may have more fame and money than I do, at least I can go see a band perform, chat with my friends and drink a couple of Coronas without being accompanied by bodyguards.

I guess you pay to be rich and famous after all. :) Oh yeah, mad props to you for buying your clothes at target. A decent place to work and they seem to be on the up and up, as far as corporations are concerned. As for relating to celebrities...I guess I really can't relate with people anyways, so perhaps I'm more ready to be a celebrity than I think...

I love Target! Although I usually can't leave the store without spending $50.00 or so. But it's great to be able to get most everything I need in one stop.

Plus, it's a Minnesota company, and I'm all about supporting local companies, no matter how big or small.

Hey i grew up in MN. We had this restaurant called the Goose Crossing it was outrageously expensive and took 4 hrs to get in even when you did have a reservation...but there was a wall of famous people there. Lol that was pretty much as close as i got to them. The food there wasn't even that good..
Oh the guy who plays James Bond was looking at buying this huge mansion house out by my old house. These crazy people bought this whole island and built this obscene house out there. Well they got a divorce and were not able to keep it anymore... Our neighbor never told us if that was a rumor or not.
But i guess my point is celebrity is pretty foreign to me too. Maybe its just MN ....
Target rocks and so do pizza rolls and i wouldn't want it any other way :)

Oh! I'm just surprised that you said 'Coronas' instead of Beers.

I'm from Mexico and the situation with the 'celebrities' is a lil' bit different around here, my boyfriend who lives in México City, goes to every concert of good rock bands, international bands and he can get to chat with them a lil' bit. I (as long as I live on a NOT Metropolitan Zone) can't even imagine going to those concerts, good rock bands just won't come here, I have to conform to see local bands. And people around here, when gets to see a national band, just goes mad!!

By the way, we don't have Target here, I have to spend around $50 dlls on one single cloth, sometimes even more! I want Target around here )=

i love this posting thanks

We don't have a Target where I'm from; we have a super Wal-Mart, which I hate!!! But where my school is, we do have a Target and I love it.
