According to this featured article in 2006 which is still a issue of millions of teenagers in the USA are not getting enough sleep. The concern is that teenagers are: 1) falling asleep in class, 2) driving while they're not fully awake and 3) doing their homework in a semi-awakefullness. Only about 1/5th of students are getting a good night sleep. This is a major concern for kids. A survey that concluded 1,600 parents, carers and children came to result of:
-- 28% of high school children fall asleep while at school once a week or more
-- 14% of high school children arrive late for school at least once a week because they have problems getting up
-- 22% of high school children fall asleep while doing their homework at least once each week
-- Over half of all teenagers have been driving their car while feeling sleepy (over the last year)
-- 15% of grades 10-12 children drive while feeling sleepy at least once each week
-- 28% of all teenagers say they are too tired to do any type of physical exercise
-- 90% of parents felt their children were getting plenty of sleep while 59% of children felt they were not
-- A much higher percentage of children who got enough sleep achieved A and B grades at school than children who did not get enough sleep
-- Sleep-deprived-children where much more likely to feel nervous and suffer from tension.
-- 12 graders, on average, are sleeping two hours less than they should each night
-- 10% of the children said they hardly ever get a good night's sleep
-- 75% of children said they consumed at least one drink with caffeine in it each day
-- 31% of children said they consumed two or more drinks with caffeine in them each day
-- The number of electronic items in a child's bedroom seems to correlate with the amount of sleep he/she manages to get. Those with more electronic items seem to suffer more from lack of sleep
-- Most children have to get up at 6.30 to get ready for school. Over half of senior high school children go to bed after 11.00pm
This is a big issue for us teenagers. Our lifes do not only consist of school, right? We have other things to do. We already go to school full-time (8 hours) then we have to go home to do homework in 6+ classes, quizzes/tests/finals to study/projects. Do we ever get a break from school? NO! Most of us have extra curricular activies such as clubs, sports, band, pratices, games and pratices end late. We still need to shower, eat dinner and start homework. By the time we finish homework, it's almost time to go to school WE HARDLY HAVE TIME TO GO TO BED. Along with that, some have to baby-sit sibblings or go to work. If they limit school hours and homework, then maybe people would stop ditching, have more time to do other things/what they want and have time to sleep.
I don't school either, but

I am not one who hates school, in fact i kinda like it. But, it is truly disturbing in how much time of our lives it takes up. I take 8 classes and each teacher thinks their homework is superior to my other classes. I go to school at 8:45 and get out at 4:00. I then have on average 2-3 hours of homework & studying. I have to eat dinner, shower, take care of pets.....oh yea, and I forgot BREATHE! They say we need to get to bed by 10 to get the appropriate amount of sleep....then stop giving 857905 hours of homework. Even my PE teachers expected us to jog 20 minutes a night. I understand school being important, but my health hold rank overall.
lol. Or maybe kids need to go to sleep earlier! For my school, freshmen and sophomore go to school at about 10:00-11:00 in the morning and get out at about 5:00-5:30 in the evening. It was a good time for me. haha I'm a late person.
