Pay It Forward

This blog was written around the holiday season (Christmas) but is still applicable any day.

I read about an especially thoughtful Starbucks customer from somewhere in the Midwest or somewhere. At any rate, they were not in California.

What struck me about this particular customer is that when she pulled up to the drive-thru window, she then paid for the person behind her in line. She told the Starbucks employee that the person behind her could accept the offer only if they promised to bestoy an act of kindness on someone else.

Well, the person who was behind tis first lady went on to accept the free order and paid for the order of the person behind her. This continued amongst the long line of drive-thru customers for over two-hours, over a hundred customers in all.

Never was a person under any obligation to keep the chain going. At any time, someone could have taken the coffee and ran. However, it is reassuring to see that the world is still populated with people who care. Paying for someone's beverage is such a simple act of charity, but it still has the potential to make a huge difference in their life. The highest-priced order only barely exceeded ten dollars. I'm glad that these people could see partake in such an act of selflessness.

Being American citizens, we have been given so much more than many of the people throughout the rest of the world. I feel terrible for others when I hear about how ungrateful they are, and they aren't even capable of beginning to understand how much better off they are than say, an emaciated four-year-old in Africa.

It warms my heart when I see people helping others and I am always praying for a chance to help others. The best way to show your gratitude is by rendering service to others.

So next time you can help someone, do it. Everytime I render service, it comes back to me ten fold. I am totally blessed every time I make a sacrifice for someone else. The Boy Scout Slogan is "Do a good turn daily". Just imagine if everyone adopted this state of mind.

With the holiday season upon us, many think they should be kinder, but shouldn't this attitude be embodied by everyone every day? I should hope so. Karma can also work in our favor, not just against us.
