Teenage Drug abuse
If you go into a middle school or high school you don’t really realize how much drugs are being abused. If you are a teenager you know because when you walk down the hallway you get offered many different types. They say “meet me in the field after school, in the far corner. I’ll give them to you if you give me the money now.” You will reply either “Okay”, or “No. Not for me.” And either way it could ruin your life. If you say Okay then you are getting yourself into drugs that ruin your brain. They literally eat your brain cells until eventually there aren’t any left. Yet if you say no then they could bug you forever. You’d get teased, and possibly considered un-cool. But is it as bad as getting killed over something so that while you are alive you are considered cool? Not really.
The parents don’t normally notice for the longest time. Not until it’s too late. Drugs today are different then they were even 3 years ago. If you get handed a bag of ‘weed’ you don’t know what else could be in there. Drugs are way more dangerous today then ever, and they are getting worse. Things that you would find around the house are being used for drugs.
One of my friends is on drugs. He has a couple friends that he always hangs out with that are also on drugs. Some of the fumes that come from the drugs make me sick. How they act is crazy. Its like they don’t even care about life anymore. But the good part is that he just applied himself for rehab. He starts today. I am so proud of him for that. I’m not sure what persuaded him to do that, but whatever it was had to be something major. From what I know he has been doing drugs for years. He is 17 years old, and soon to be 18. He made a good decision for going to rehab, but the fact that he can’t bring back his life will suck. He is one of the ‘bad boys’ who skipped class, and just barely passed the next grades. It is so scary that even though he is trying to quite it may not work, and that he may die soon anyway. He is so young, and yet he put himself through all that damage and he may not be able to get himself out.
Why would you even bother to put yourself through that. “Oh, I’ll just try it.” That’s what so many people say, and it is their last words. I read an article in ‘Readers Digest’ a couple days ago that was written by a mother who’s daughters friend tried just one pill. The smallest amount you could possibly take. And she ended up in a seizure and a coma for a couple days. Eventually she just gave up and past away. There was nothing the doctors could do. They tried everything, but nothing brought her back, or kept her alive in the first place. It is so sad because she is the kind of girl that was popular and got good grades and was in style with everything, and it only took one. She didn’t have to put herself through that. And you don’t either. When you are offered any type of drug remember this could be my last moment alive. Is it better to be considered cool right before I die or be safe and become cool on my own?

I’ll give them to you if you give me the money now.
Pfft. Yeah right. Give 'em the money now and find yourself in an empty field later.
Yeah i know, but it was just an example. I hope that nobody would give them the money anyway.
Yeah. I was making a "funny", if you will. Sadly, though, some kids these days probably would.
Yeah...that is very sad.
Hold up here a minute, you are condescending to the point of offence. You obviously have no frame of reference whatsoever in regard to drugs and those who choose to use them.
You have this self congratulatory, back-patting view of yourself which only serves to highlight your lack of knowledge and experience. You seem to believe that those who choose to use drugs are helpless in their idiot like stupidity, and that you, with your crystal clear view of the world, in a position of God like intellectual superiority are their only salvation. I do drugs and have plenty of friends who do them and plenty who don't. I've done these drugs you speak of, I've hung out with dealers, I've lived the lifstyle on my own terms. I in short have a frame of reference. I understand what motivates a plethora of different types of drug user, because they make up a portion of my personal friend base. One thing most of them have in common is the fact that they want more from life, not less. You have never experienced the cartoony rush of Ketamine, the warm lazy glow of weed, the dreamlike wonder of acid, so how the fuck can you decide that they are not worth it?
You rattle on about somebody dying from a single dose of extacy, but you fail to relate the fact that a significant percentage of the world's population would die from a single serving of peanuts...It's called an allergic reaction, shit happens. People like you tend to use the 'Taking extacy is like playing Russian roulette' line a lot, 'All it takes is one, it could be you..etc' , but let's remember that statistically if you take the number of people who have taken extacy, the amount they took and the number of times they've taken it, we find the the gun used in this game of Russian roulette has a few million chambers and one bullet, maths were never my forte but based on foundation level probability I'd put my life on those odds. Grow up and stop being so condescendingly self righteous. Yes plenty of idiots turn to drugs, but plenty of idiots don't. There are people who murder and rape who never did an illicit drug in their lives. There were two kids in my high school who committed suicide, neither had ever touched drugs. Drugs are not the problem, the individual ( I stress Individual, because you are not the only one, drug users, despite your naive perception, are individuals not just a sheeplike mass of blind dummies) and their reason for taking drugs are the defining factors. You clearly have no interest in trying to understand the spectrum of different characters who choose to use drugs, you don't seem to realise that every user is an individual with their own personal reasons for making the choices they make, you seem more interested in standing by the sidelines waist deep in your own ignorance bundling everybody under the banner of Druggie and shaking your head while wagging your finger, having already convinced yourself that you are right without looking at both sides of the argument. If you tried to view your position from the eyes of the drug users you seem to think you have figured so well, you would see a billion shades of grey filling the void of you black and white world.
Oh yeah and as far as you friend the rehabber goes, don't worry. The drugs he chose obviously didn't suit him, hence rehab. The guy's fuckin 18, that's a baby in drug terms. His life is not over, regardless of what they told you in bible studies. Chances are the maestrom of hormones pumping through his adolescent body are fucking with his head far worse than any drug he's using, it's easy for teenage drug users to forget that they had issues before using drugs. I've seen countless fucked up people, who were fucked up before ever taking drugs, start taking pills or smoking weed or whatever, and then turn around and blame drugs. If somebody thinks taking drugs will make them cool, that is sad, but if somebody believes that to be the only reason somebody would choose to use drugs, well that's just as sad, two different sides of the same ignorant coin. Before you slam recreational drug use and the individuals who choose to incorporate it into their lives, you must consider that it has been a part of human society since before cave painting, and exists still in every strata of society from the lowest to the highest, from the most primative to the most sophisticated, from the least educated to the most. If you take this into genuine consideration, then hopefully you will be able to get off your self made moral highground and see the world as it is, as opposed to how you think it is.
