A tattoo is a form of artistic expression. They can have very personal meanings and express beautiful art work. Some people still look at tattoos as negative in today's society. why? i guess because many people correlate tattoos to drugs, alcohol, and gangs, as the typical stereotype. But what about the beautiful artwork displayed on all walks of life, including non gang members or drug users?
Don't get me wrong, sometimes the stereotype may be true, but i don't appreciate people looking down upon others with tattoos that are just as functioning and productive in society as others with out tattoos. Even though the negative stereotype about tattoos still exists today, many more are accepting tattoos as art. The unique quality of a tattoo is huge. During the young generation of today, tattoos are becoming more popular and accepted. The older generation might disagree.
Some jobs prohibit visible tattoos at work. I understand this for certain professional careers. I would probably never get a tattoo in a very visible place in work attire because i would not want to limit myself from options in the work force. That is my personal opinion. I do have one tattoo that carries a lot of meaning, is beautiful, and i love it everyday. I have never had problems getting a job because of it.
what are your ideas or views about tattoos? Are tattoos becoming TOO ACCEPTED in todays young society?
thank you for reading and possibly discussing.

I'm not a fan of tattoos. I don't understand the appeal of putting something artificial into your skin which is naturally so beautiful. I often think of tattoos as being sort of trashy. The only tattoos that I really think are cool are a) tribal tattoos (WHEN IT'S YOUR HERITAGE) b) when it's a part of history, like Holocaust tattoos or French Revolution tattoos. I can appreciate the art of tattoos (to a degree), but I hate when people don't get something original and just get a tattoo off the wall.
Tattooing is becoming so much more popular and accepted in America. However, I think it might be at risk of becoming TOO popular. The number of students at my high school (which is a pretty reputable upper-middle class school with enrollment around 3,000) that have tattoos is amazing. The number of seemingly POINTLESS tattoos is even more so. I think that if you're going to get a tattoo, you should certainly get one that you love and are that means something to you. However, I think that there are several girls who will regret the cute little butterflies, hearts, or Tinkerbell banners with their names on them when they mature a little. It's good to hear that you still love the tattoo you have and that it hasn't caused you any unnecessary problems.
I personally do not like tattoos, but that is because I feel that some people do not get them for the right reasons. I understand and admire when individuals get tattoos, such as you said, for something that means a lot to them. However, my cousin got a tattoo as soon as she was old enough to as a symbol of rebellion against her parents and my friend got a bleeding heart because he thought it would be "cool." I feel like these people later in life may change their minds about their tattoo and no longer like it.
You listed certain professions that do not approve of visible tattoos. I also think that the military and Judaism opposes tattoos as well, but I am not a hundred percent sure.
One of my oldest friends has been a tattoo artist for over a decade, and an artist his whole life. I contributed to his desire to put his work on skin, and am incredibly proud of him. I'm even more proud to display his ORIGINAL artwork on my thigh, ankle, and wrist.
Tattoos are trendy right now, and they won't be forever, unlike the ink in your skin. Some people will try getting laser removal, but that takes a lot of time and money, often scars, and doesn't always work.
My tattoos mean a lot to me, and the fact that most people just think it's art makes it that much more special to me.
If you are thinking about getting a tattoo... PLEASE find out everything you can about the shop. Make sure they use DISPOSABLE needles. Look through an artist's portfolio. Watch for sterility- gloves ALWAYS. If they care about themselves, it's a good sign they care about their customers. ASK QUESTIONS. Don't just go somewhere because a friend of a friend recommended a place. Really think about what means a lot to you too that you will be proud to show twenty years form now.

I think tattoos can be beautiful. It is one way to express yourself.
I also agree with 1060601. I appreciate them more when they are original. Kanji, tribal stuff because it's pretty--not original.
Tattoos are a growing trend, but unlike most trends, you can't just grow out of them, and they don't look too good when they start to fade away. I think a lot of people getting tattoos, because they seem to be cool right now, are going to regret it later in life. Other people, people who appreciate tattoos as art, probably won't regret it.
There's a show at the Arizona Renne Fest every year called Tairy Fales. I think the guy who performs it is named Tom Silectomy. He likes to talk about tattoos and getting older. I think my favorite example he gives is "That unicorn was really neat... until it turned into a rhinoceros." Or "You just wait and that butterfly will morph into 2 lightening bolts attacking a caterpillar."

I think that all depends on where you get the tattoos. I actually have one around my belly button (it's original- they all are), and it's tear drop-shaped. It WAS even, but I've had a ton of abdominal surgeries, and it's all crooked. I think it's funny, and I'm not worried about it. I might ask my tattoo artist for some ideas of what we might be able to do with it...

I really want to get a tattoo like on my wrist or ankle, somewhere its easy to cover up if i need to. Some times people forget that they are going to eventully grow old and girls with dolphin tattos around their belly buttons to look like whales when they get pregnant . But other than that, go for it,

I've been planning my tattoos for about a year now. I want to make sure they are exactly the way I want them. What I have planned is extremely important to me and I don't really care what other people think of me because of them(I'm not going to sacrifice who I am to try and please other people). I have a friend who wants to get a Playboy bunny tattooed on her back just because her parents are uber conservative. I can see her regretting that one even five years down the road. On the other hand, I have a friend who is super tattooed. She was married to a tattoo artist. She doesn't regret any of them. In fact, she just got another one abotu four months ago. I agree that tattoos are not for everyone. It depends on the person and the tattoos themselves.

I think tattoos are an amazing way to express yourself. I have no problem with them but I know many people do, especially of an older generation.
I always see it as, you have to be prepared for what people think about you. You have to be prepared for the prejudice and the way people will see you even if it is wrong.
Not only are tattoos looked down upon sometimes, but so are piercings. I have a lot of piercings (11 to be exact), nothing too out of the ordinary. They are mostly on my ears, I have my nose and my tongue. I know what people think when they see a person with a lot of piercings especially when they are visible.
Do what you want but be prepared for the consequences. If a tattoo is the only way you feel you can express youself, then get one, but for the right reasons. I believe we should be less prejudice in many aspects of life, and not just with body alterations such as tattoos and piercings.

I think that tattoos are fun! Not only do you get to express your own artistic viewpoints, but you can show off a little bit of a rebellious side - and I don't see anything wrong with that! The only objection I have for tattoos is the people who think that they have to turn there skin into Elphaba (the wicked witch of the west) just so they can stick out like a horrible green martian. I think that there is such a thing as too much. My Brother in law is "Sleeving" right now, and sure, it looks cool right now... but in 40 years, he's just going to look like a wrinkly raisin. EWWWWW!
Never let the world get you further down, it already has the weight of gravity on your shoulders.
I don't understand why anyone would not get a tattoo that he or she wanted just because of "career options". There are billions of places to work, and do you really want to work for a company that is ashamed of who you are?
By the way, I just recently won a job after interviewing with a panel of people over 50 while wearing my nose ring and showing my backpiece. If you're truly the best candidate for the job your tattoo won't matter. If you have a boss so shallow to judge you by your art, what's going to happen when he or she doesn't like your haircut?
