I find it difficult to decide my position on the death penalty.
On the one hand, I understand what it's like to want someone that did something to you dead. But on the other hand, I see how hypocritical it is to kill someone for killing another person. I can't entirely find justification for either one. I understand wanting revenge. But I also understand that the problem witht he death penalty is the governmental execution of revenge. And what about saftey? Should we wait until the killer gets out and strikes again?
I also felt like rape should be punishable by the death penalty. The thing about rape to me is... when you're murdered you're dead. And that does seem a bit insenstive, but rape you have to live with your whole life. And it's difficult. But maybe it's just because I have such personal feelings for rape. Should we as faulted human beings execute eachother when we're faulted ourselves? Does the judicial process take away our faults and make us creditible and able to judge? I'm not sure, but I'd love to hear some opinions.
There is no reason to kill another human being unless they represent a clear and present threat to other human beings. In my mind the only case for the death penalty would be for a prisoner already in jail for life who keeps escaping. Only when they have harmed in the past, and may harm again (ie escape from jail when they are in under a life sentence) should we kill. Otherwise we're simply lowering ourselves to the same levels that the criminals operate on, and I'd like to think that we have a little more moral high ground than that.

I do not believe in the "death penalty" Like you said, there is NO excuse to kill another (with intent). I mean if you are about to be stabbed and he is a foot away, than shoot. But hey, you are saving your life, I guess that would be the only exception. But who are we to decide who lives and dies? Who gives us the power? Our status as the judge or something? Nono...A life time of being in jail is more than enough. I am also sorry to say that killing for "closure" is crap! If I ever find the killers of my uncle, I want them to suffer, not to die and get away with it..Than again, that's my opinion
