Public Transportation Part I

I am a freshman at a junior college. I live near the state university though, and until three weeks ago I took the bus everywhere. In San Diego there is an extremely large population of Mexicans, and along side a large number of families living below the poverty line. By nature I am a very observant person. Most days I sat right in front, and just watched. I rarely excluded myself from the world but shoving ipod earphones into my ears until my thirty minute ride was over.

Every Monday and Wednesday I took the bus home after school and I saw this one man who stood out. Everyday he would get on sit in the same spot and pull out his bible. When we passed the church he took the blue ribbon and opened up to the same page and said the same prayer he did every Monday and Wednesday. Then as we approached the last stop, he would run to the front and ask the bus driver if they were stopping at the first stop or pulling through the bus depot (he was always hurrying). I wondering every time I saw this man, what inclined him to everyday do the same thing without a hesitation in his routine. It was so odd to me, then finally one I realized that it wasn't odd to him. That was his life as he knew it.

I found the bus riding experience to be very rewarding and intriguing. I now have a car that my parents surprised me with on my visit home and I appreciate it everytime I turn the key. Public transportation is something you don't understand unless you've experienced it, and I highly recommend the experience because there aren't any others like it.

More to come, just my thoughts for now. :]

I think people watching can be one of the most interesting things in life. The best is at LAX. It's an activity that really makes me think about society.

I agree! People watching is just so interesting. I have never been to LAX but any airport to me is one of the best place to people watch, because it is a place where some many different types of people from different places come together to do the same activity. So interesting.

People watching is really great. LAX would be interesting, it's similar to MIA and I find MIA to be an interesting people watching spot. It's also interesting to notice the difference between people in, say, South Beach, and a place like downtown Miami or UM. I like watching people's postures and how they are expressing themselves to the outside world.

I have never been to Florida, but I assume that would be a great place to people watch.

Après la pluie le beau temps.
