digital dorm room

Imagine this: it is 2020, you are a college freshman. You swipe your keycard on the keypad next to your door, it unlocks. You open the door and walk into your dorm room. The room is a far cry from what your parents called home during their four+ years away at school. It is, in fact, a total change. Finally schools have renovated their dorms to provide their students with a healthier experience overall. The environment is ideal, not only for academic progress but, also for personal health and social advancement.

Simple changes have occurred to create the perfect environment for you, the student. The room is adequately lit, with recessed lighting, facing upwards so as not to be too harsh. The chair at your desk has lumbar support and can be raised or lowered to the perfect level for you. There is a large window providing sunlight to keep you alert while you study. There is a school computer located in each dorm room for your personal use. The internet is never slow. You have all you could need for a comfortable study session.

Now that you are sure your academic needs are met in your dorm room, you have time to focus on your health. As a college student, a primary concern is staying healthy while away from home. But don’t worry. Your room has been carefully cleaned. Utilizing the latest technologies, all molds have been removed, the carpet has been deep cleaned, and antibacterial trash cans replaced old dirty ones. There is an air purifier so remove contaminants before they reach your lungs. Your health is now more a part of your college’s primary concern. However, they have also made their dorms more socially friendly.

Your dorm is like a mini-development. There is a swimming pool for the residents and a gym located on the main floor. A snack bar (which provides jobs) is also on the main floor, ensuring that there is always a hangout spot for those taking a study break. Computers are located all around dorm, just in case your roommate might be using your college provided dorm room computer. The large lounges located on each floor have a news ticker with the latest breaking news. They also have big screen televisions, pool tables, and other relaxing games. These will be areas for hanging out and catching up with friends after a long, hard week.

By the year 2020, colleges and universities will begin to realize their responsibility to better care for their students. Better dorm rooms with faster internet access and a more comfortable environment with help the students’ academic progress. Cleaner rooms will keep students healthy and happy. And the mini-developments that will develop in the dorms will advance students socially. While not all colleges and universities will be able to make these changes right away, they will take steps to make their schools a better place for their students.
