Honestly, I dont care what Britney Spears does..I really dont, although I wish that we would leave her bad choice making self to the hospital that she has recently been involuntairly committed to. I do wish however that we focused on my bigger issue, what about her children. They (the gov't, the US justice sytem) are leaving them with a man, who cant even spell his whole name and would rather we call him K-fed. Oh, am I impressed. I am haunted frequently by the problems that child abuse brings..It seems like we dont know how to treat it, I believe (and please dont be mad if this is wrong) that we started noticing that children are people around the time of industrialization. In that time it seems to me that we decided that kids needed to go to school, and the coal mine was no longer the place to be. I dont think we advanced much beyond that. If you want to do something really fun, google in "child abuse" in the news area, and you come back to me and tell me that the news that you read isnt harrowing.
What is it about the world today, i don’t remember seeing anywhere that it was the 1920s and that we owned children, but yet we do. We own them, they are ours until death "do us part" oh and hey then if you have another one, you can still get visitation with that child. Here is what I would like to know, your a young child and your mother/father/caregiver has killed your sibling and in jail..they can still have visitation rights!? What kind of country is this? it fascinates me that we treat children like they are our property.
Not only do we treat them like property, but lets say that the child gets out of the situation and put into a better place such as a, hmm foster home..oh wait, is that really better? What are we doing to these children, do you know that if you are abused you are more likely to become an abuser..What a great way to stop the cycle of violence, what a great way to give a better chance to the future, by giving them no hope and no chance.
I know that people often ask me, what would I like done..and I am not sure that I have the perfect answer. I am against child abuse, I am against child ownership, and I am not really for the foster system. It doesn’t leave me a lot of choices, but I think there is always a choice and its up to the social worker and the gov’t to make the right choice. If you think its bad its bad…don’t mess around, don’t give second chances because its those second chances that end lives. It is in my great frusteration that children die because of negligence of a civil servant. We need to take our heads from under the sheets and see it as what it is..these are people, they deserve to be protected and loved not bruised, beaten, burned, cut and killed. They don’t deserve it..I leave this post with a story that I once heard from a very trustworthy human being :
When she was a child, her parents were thought to be abusing her..(they were) and social services came to her school to ask questions. They discovered this maybe a valid case to investigate and they found that there were strong indications of abuse. So, social services visited her parents and gave them coping strategies for stress, and returned this individual to her home..only to be abused that night for going to the authorities. This is where my anger, frustration and sadness is..this is what truly troubles me, day in and day out. If we don’t take care of the children, of the future leaders, of the future…then who will? Your government wont, the teachers wont…we need to stand up and take care of these children. The pre-industrialization ended, and so did treating children like property. They are not owned…and nor should they ever be.
Its my property, and I can treat it anyway that I want

I believe that children have "rights" to a certain degree and that they are not "owned," but honestly, parents have a say in what their kids do and don't do. They have a say in where their kids go, who they talk to, what they do for a living (at least until they're eighteen), and where they go to school.
It's nice if parents offer a little bit of freedom when it comes to the things I mentioned above, but parents have every right to be the final say in those situations.
Actually, if parents "owned up" to their children a little more, we might not have the brats running around like we do today. If parents "owned up," it would mean they were acting like parents.
Hard to believe they exist sometimes, huh?
