Can we really afford college?

I know I'm not the only one out there who is expecting to be in at least $20,000 in debt by the time I graduate. While I know the easy solution to any problem is to attend a State School or Community College, the solution isn't that easy. Banks are refusing to give loans to students attending community college, and less selective four year colleges. While the money should be available to those who are going to the $40,000 a year schools, should the people going the more affordable route suffer? How can the banks justify refusing loans to students depending on where they choose to go to school, and not soley based on credit? Partially becuase banks feel a student from a prestigious four year univeristy will be more likely to pay the loan bank? Becuase they will make more money on someone $20,000 in debt, rather than $7,000?
Can greed really full hurting society where 40% of the nation's undergraduates are attending community college?

What are some solutions we are forcing these students into?
- Greater financial strain on the family.
- Getting second, or maybe third jobs?

I know the stress of all that would not only affect my grades, my attendance, and the chance of getting into a graduate program. According to College Board community college students only borrow on average $3,200 a year. For two years a total of $6,400, I personaly know more people who racked up that much on a Macy's card.

Banks, what are you thinking?
You're jerks.

It's not fair at all for banks to favor students who want to borrow more money, but they are in business solely to make money. I guess, even during such economic times, helping people isn't really a priority.
