All that separates us is a double yellow line

Driving is probably the scariest thing I have ever done.
I realized this when I was driving home today. I had never driven when it is really windy, so I was really afraid.
I think that driving a car takes a lot of trust in people. It seems like the only thing that separates me from a head-on collision with another car is a double yellow line. Not a barrier of any sort. Just a line painted on the ground. It takes a lot of trust to expect people to respect the line.
I think I am one of the few teenagers who realizes what can happen when driving. I choose to drive safely because I know that if I get in a wreck, I'm not only putting my life at risk, I'm putting the lives of those around me at risk.
It doesn't seem like many kids can figure that out.
Just last year two boys at my school were killed in an accident. I didn't know them, so it didn't really affect me. Other people at my school who didn't know them seemed way too emotionally attatched to them. It was weird. I think I know why. It was a wake-up call. They realized that their not as invincible as they thought they were.
Life is a fragile thing.
So next time you drive, remember the people in the other cars. They have families and friends, just like you. Do you want to have the guilt of ruining someone's life?
