I'm astounded at my school that everytime I mention Bill O'Reilly in front of my friends i'm hounded as a right wing conservative who stands for something that Fox News has force fed an incompetent mind to brainwash America. It shames me that since the Iraq war, which I will not personally discuss my view point on for the sake of this blog, the new cool thing is to be "democratic" and "liberal" in high school. While I know that most younger kids tend to be liberal at my age, i've never understood why my peers are so interested in bashing O'Reilly in front of me any time I even mention his name or his show. It even extends beyond my peers, perhaps you caught O'reilly tonight when Joseph Vallario (D) of Maryland said "O'Reilly is a liar" "Tell him to kiss my fanny" "Tell him I said that". Why is Bill O'reilly suddenly the culprit for standing for what he believes him. Anything the democrats do right now is perceived as correct by a large portion of the nation. Being "liberal" Is suddenly so cool that NBC one of the nations largest news networks has recently shifted their doctrine. I know this whole blog is sort of speculation and can't really be support by much facts, but it's just what i've noticed in the past few years in high school. My main reason for believing this is because I live in a county in which being a Republic is "the thing", and Republicans are always elected from my county, but yet kids, who usually take *95%* of their beliefs from their parents, are increasingly becoming democrat. One of my friends even blatantly stated in front of me, "Bill O'Reilly has to be stupid because he graduated from Harvard but he is a Republican, that makes no sense, all smart people are Democrats." I was shocked. Just wanted to know how you guys felt about it. I am personally very republican and democratic. So I'm on no bandwagon, i'm for what I believe in, but what do so many kids join the whole "Liberal band wagon"???

I see what you are saying. A very large majority of my highschool is liberal. But I think it is probably something that they will grow out of if they just "jump on the bandwagon". Their beliefs will mature and maybe they will stay liberal and maybe they won't. I just wanted to let you know that you are not crazy. It is happening. I see it too. I am proud of you for sticking to your beliefs. That is beautiful. More people should know what they believe and stick with it.

Bill O'Reilly is so picked on because well...he's kind of a big asshole. He often uses bullying tactics instead of actually debating and he often just flat out lies. I don't care for Sean Hannity's viewpoints either, but he at least debates topics and generally seems to have done his research.
And believe me, I'm not just bashing O'Reilly because a dislike for arrogant Conservatives because I often listen to Michael Savage, and actually enjoy his show. If a Libertarian like myself can not only tolerate but enjoy Michael Savage, I think that just goes to show how big of a jerk I find O'Reilly to be.

Bill O'Reilly is despised not because he expresses his opinions, but because he does it in such a way as to make himself a total asshole. He doesn't have intelligent debates, he doesn't bother to listen to opposing viewpoints, and he obviously doesn't think too hard about what he is saying. He's just another arrogant, spoiled rich white man who wants to tell everyone how to live their lives under the guise of "protecting liberty."
Conservative viewpoints are fine, if you can rationally back them up. A lot of them make a lot of sense, but the fact that people like Bill O'Reilly can't hold an intelligent conversation makes all conservatives look like rabid psychopaths.
OT to TJBric, I've never been impressed with Mike Savage. I find him racist and bigoted, but as you said, the fact that you like hime and dislike O'Reilly does make an impressive point.

Just to be clear, I do agree that Michael Savage is bigoted, and disagree with him on most points. I just happen to find his show entertaining one way or the other. Especially when he veers from political discussion.

True! There's nothing like a good flash in the pan to entertain and provoke.
