As a military veteran, I often hear other veterans say that Hillary Clinton winning the White House will lead to civil war. I think these men are all bark, no bite, but I do understand the sentiment. Clinton in the White House would be BAD for this country, but I do not believe an armed coup is the answer. The sad part about politics in the United States is that we are often forced to vote not for the best candidate, but instead for who we believe will cause the least amount of damage. McCain vs Obama is a coin toss, but Clinton will divide this country and cause irreparable damage.
Back to the topic of civil wars. As for the next American Civil War, I believe it will occur during my lifetime and will be fought over one of these two causes-- race or religion. Personally, I predict religion, although the racial divide in the USA is getting wider and increasingly more bitter every day. The christians will be forced to fight for the preservation of their faith, and I am not referring only to the war against Muslims which seems to have already begun. I mean atheists and agnostics and the mass of the American people who believe that religion is a waste of time and money. These are the people who will be targeted in the next American Civil War. I do not look forward to the arrival of this day, but when it does arrive, I will be ready to defend by beliefs.
The Next American Civil War

What are the beliefs that you intend to protect?

I am an atheist, and I intend to defend my beliefs against the christian missionaries who aim to conquer the USA in the same manner they tried to conquer Africa many years ago.
I highly doubt any civil war in America's future. We're at a much more civilized time, where civil wars just don't happen in modern society (yes, I know they go on in less developed countries). We are a VERY stable country, and the thought of any political disagreement escalating to war is rediculous. Furthermore, there is no clear divide amongst the country geographically, and there certainly is no huge issue at all that a majority of people would die for. If you're expecting to see the "next American civil war" within your lifetime, I hope you expect to live a very, very long time.
I disagree with both the author of the blog and 1060601. A possiblity of a civil war is possible, but not because of religion. Today's media and government have influenced people into accepting other religions and beliefs, just like accepting ethnic groups. A religious civil war seems ridicilous, there hasn't been any indication that people are separated into a civil-war-mode because of religion. Especially with today's laws, with the 1st amendment, freedom of speech.
The race issue is more probably. As seen by the Black Panthers and black nationalists, that want to create a seperate country for black people. Although their size isn't very large, they are a more probably threat to this country's stability than religion is.
So since people are now "civillized" a civil war can't happen?
Even if somehow the president becomes a dictator and establishes a fascist regime?
We are all civilized and we will talk things through, not happening.
