We Must Rip Out All The Epilogues From The Books That We Have Read

Staring at the ceiling is a common occurrence in our society.

Or...

Staring at the ceiling is a commonly chosen alternative to finalization.

Many of us are, by nature, procrastinators. While we strive to know "the end" and to have closure in a situation, we are really nothing unless we're left staring at the ceiling and wondering.

Honestly, everyone grows up with the knowledge, and probably the expectance, of a fairy-tale happy ending. In one way or another, we want what we think is best and strive to do anything possible to complete it.

But is there ever an ending?

As soon as we reach one obstacle, there is always another:

Epilogue: I graduated high school! ... Oh wait... something's coming....

Epilogue: I resolved the problem with my roommate and we both lived happily ever after! ... Oh, wait...

Epilogue: I graduated college and got engaged! Happy ending! ... uh oh... I think I might see a pattern.

We are afraid of endings. Even when something ends (Star Wars trilogy?), we tend to keep creating.

You could say that death is the only real epilogye to our lives. But would that be true? What if you believe in an afterlife? What about your loved ones? Don't they go on even after you're gone?

Maybe it's an underlying perfectionist mindset that we all carry deep within ourselves. If it's never "finished," then there is always room for change and improvement.

For that reason, I say "rip out all the epilogues!" There is no such thing as an ending. We always have the opportunity to change and to persist.

Even Harry and Ginny have the rest of their lives to change. Ron and Hermione may not stay married forever. So why even write an epilogue? Why finish a story that has so much potential?

Why decide the rest of your life before it's really up?

I refuse to believe in finished. There's no such thing as complete. Not when there is so much potential for me and for the world. So I'm ripping up my epilogue before it's even written.

I don't need to design my epilogue. My life has all it's life to decide for itself.

Nice post =)

What I think Conor was getting at was the human habit to must hide our past to see the future.

Good idea.

It makes sense, and I like that interpretation.

While it may be [a possibility] of what the song was intended to mean, there are so many other things that can be derived from one line of a song simply by listening.

It's amazing how one artist can appeal to so many ideas while still having his own agenda.

Maybe that's why I like music :-)
