Nickelodeon needs to bring old school shows back

I'm probably not the only one who wonders every once in a while what happened to the old shows that used to be on Nickelodeon.  Who could forget that little green clay person named Gumby.  Where did Legends of the Hidden Temple, Guts, Wild and Crazy Kids, Figure it Out, Double Dare, the gameshow with the puppets at the commercials, and the other game shows go?  I still remember crying if I ever missed an episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple.  There are also a lot more cartoons on the air now than there were back then.  What happened to Looney Tunes, Tiny Tunes, and Animaniacs?  They were replaced by shows that aren't as funny and that aren't very original.  Anybody want to start a petition or something to bring the "old school" shows back?  Kids today don't know what they are missing by not seeing the "old school" shows.

So - did you guys know that only 32 teams from Legends of the Hidden Temple actually ever made it all the way out of the Temple?
I thought that was amazing. My favorite teams were the Red Jaguars and the Silver Snakes.
I was always amazed at how dumb some of the kids were on that show when I was little - my mom always asked me to quit screaming at the TV b.c the kids couldn't hear my directions anyway :)

And now I have the theme song from that Camp Anawana show. I know I spelled that wrong but it's such a faint memory :(

I really miss Doug and the beatbox thing - I thought Patty was dumb for not going out with him.

Lots of these shows are on either a channel called GAS or NTOON. But only the game shows and cartoons. No where will you find Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts, My Brother and me, Clarissa Explains it All, etc. Yesterday I showed my sister Pete & Pete and she couldn't believe that shows used to be good on Nickelodeon.

Nothing truly good lasts long.

I'm watching GUS right now.

I think some of the older live action shows are on Noggin. Or they were a few years ago, when I got Noggin. I remember seeing Clarissa Explains It All and Ghost Writer there, at least.

I actually started a petition on petition.com, though it hasn't seemed to get a lot of signatures. I'm not actually sure where it is now. I think it might have been deleted due to the amount of similar petitions or something.

Don't forget the cartoons like, Rocko's Modern Life, and Doug, and shows like Clarissa explains it all, and Are you Scared of the Dark?, and Aghhhh! Real Monsters! ... even the Goosebumps shows played every now and again. I never have understood how such lame and horribly drawn and acted shows have come on air now days. I even remember teen shows like, My so called life, and Daria, and Mission Hill .... the old Real worlds when all the did was their jobs and mess around with music and such... I can't tell you how many debates I've been in over this subject! lol. You CAN petition.. you should message me if you'd really like to attempt a shot at getting these shows back, we would just have to do a lot of research which is fine by me!! :)

I LOVED Doug...

and Daria was an obsession of mine as well. I used to try to draw the cartoons and started for awhile drawing my people that way :)

Oh my gosh gosh! I used to love Legends of the Hidden Temple! I forgot about that. Geez, I forgot how much I liked a lot of the shows they used to play on Nick. But I must admit, I watch the Avatar every chance I get. Not all of the new shows are bad, just a lot of them.

Ugh. I'm sick at home today and am stuck watching tv. Nickelodeon is having a 24 hour Sponge Bob marathon. That is scary.

How about Clarissa Explains It All or Are You Afraid Of The Dark? I miss those shows!

While I haven't watched TV for ages and thus am unqualified to comment on Nick's new line up, I can definitely attest to the quality of the old shows. Most of the old shows were awesome!

I agree. They need to maek a special day or something. They have marathons of other shows...so why can't they make one for the old school shows?

haha. you're the one of the coolest 90's kids ever. Those shows were the best. It was always a treat to get up on Saturday morning and watch the best cartoons in the world. Who can forget the original Power Rangers or All That on Nickolodean??? Lory Beth and her giant ear of corn??? They were the greatest! They need to have a "old school" rerun special during the day where they play all of the old stuff we know and loved.

I'm getting so sick of reruns on Nickelodeon when I do get a chance to watch tv. How about putting some reruns of some game shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple and Guts back on. Nick at Nite could also improve its lineup.

You can always buy the Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain DVDs. Other than that, there probably isn't much consolation. TV has gone even further down the hole (hey--that duck from Tiny Toons said that when he was a baby) than before. I tire of things like Spongebob Squarepants and miss Are You Afraid of the Dark?

The only way we can watch the shows is if someone happened to post an episode on Youtube, and after a while, watching the same episode over and over gets pretty boring.

Nickelodeon does have a channel for the classics, but it isn't a cable channel, so that doesn't do a lot of good for those of us who only have cable.

I thought Nickelodeon had another channel for the classics. I agree that the old school shows were better than todays. BY MILLION!

Too bad most people don't get Noggin and Gas-Games and Sports. That policy is stupid. Can't they make another channel or something? They should have two Nickelodeon channels. One for old school shows and one for the junk on tv now. Then maybe they could also put old Nick at Nite shows on too like Happy Days, The Monkees, The Brady Bunch, and many of the other classics. TV Land plays some of them, but it doesn't play all of them and the ones it does play, I never get to see because of work or school.

I think GAS-Games and Sports show some of the old Nick game shows, but I'm not sure cause that's the only channel I don't have. Nicktoons show Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold(sometimes) and other shows, but mainly they're the modern shows.

I remember Ghostwriter was on NOggin, but it's not on there anymore. I thought they had Clarissa and Pete and Pete, but they only have Brandy and The Fresh Prince along with their original shows.

I was reading something on Disney with their 65 policy. It says no matter how popular a show is, after 65 episodes, it's cancelled. It's so they don't become dependant on old shows. Some of Nick's shows follow this same policy. I think it's stupid, but hey...

Hey, I found a really good petition to Nickelodeon to get the old shows back. Here's a link.
http://www.petitiononline.com/cnick123/petition.html
The shows on today are really violent or scary. Spongebob is even kind of scary. Today's shows are all violent, making fun of stupidity, or stuff that we see in our own homes. How many people fight with their siblings? We don't need to see that on tv. I'd rather see gameshows where I'm learning stuff or where people are getting super messy and having fun doing it than shows about stuff that we see every day in our own lives. Maybe it's just me, but I'd love to see Legends of the Hidden Temple or Global Guts on the air again. I wanted to be on those shows when I was little.

I forgot. Did the contestants on Legends of the Hidden Temple win anything if they made it out of the temple in time? It's been so long since I last saw it.

I wish they would at least put on a special sometime and show all of them. Or make a channel for all of them to show on.

i do agree with you on the original post. I miss the old school shows also but we have no chance of getting them back. I am sure that they are gone 100%. It's sad but true.

I never really liked the Brain much. Pinky was really funny. What was Omec supposed to be from in Legends of the Hidden Temple? A Mayan statue of a head or something?

His singing is funny. I never understood the whole point of the pigeon part of the show. What was the point of the old gray pigeon? Was he just supposed to give advice or act mysterious with his talking a different language?

It was a spoof on the Godfather.

The Goodfeathers, The Godfather.

Don't forget Pinky and the Brain.

Oops on Tiny Toons. My favorite part was the mime skeleton in the Good Idea...Bad Idea segment and the wheel that Yakko, Wakko, and Dot spun at the end of some of the shows. I still believe that they should put all of those old shows back on the air.

Two words: Yakko singing.

Cartoons today are just dumb and are very badly-drawn. Samurai Jack (which is not Nickelodeon, but that's beside the point) especially makes me violent.

On a side note, it's Tiny Toons, not Tunes. And Wakko was my secret lover.
