What is mentally ill anyway? How much can a person take before they snap? What happens when someone snaps do they leave their mind?And when they do where exactly is they go? When people snap and kill people because they have all they can take what does it mean?
Well I can tell you unloading all your pent up frusterations by blogging keeps this from happening but I want to let you into the mind of someone it happened to.
A person I know was abused severely during her childhood. She grew up and married an abusive man. Then like a fool because she was desperate to follow her dreams she moved in with both of them in the same house. Every day she shook ,cried and threw up. These people didn't care they wanted what they wanted from her and were going to get it no matter what. One wanted to be their slave and the other was willing to do anything they could to get her out of their house. To make a long story short she began having severe panic attacks and was terrified of everything. She was extremely sick and after the 5th trip to the hospital the Dr decided to give her a drug known as prednisone to help her breathe,
The first day she felt like she could do anything. She didn't need sleep and was walking through the hospital carrying her 100lb daughter. The second day she had boundless energy and couldn't stop moving. Its on the third day she was said to lose her mind. She sat in a corner screaming "Oh my God over and over. The doctors looked at her husband and said she needs to be committed so we can find out what caused this.
So she was. She still screamed when anyone touched her yet she was completely aware of everything going on around her. She just couldn't stop it from hapening. With our health system she was released on some serious psycotrophoc drugs for three days. During that time she immediately went after those who had made sure she wasn't to survive. She twirled a knife over her husband and threatned her mother not to breathe too loud. She was trhough being the dog and had absouloutely no remorse for what she was about to do.She did not own a gun because she had never trusted a person she lived witj. This fact is probably what saved his life. She spent a year in and out of hospitals trying to understand what has happened and more than that on antidepressants.She wanted to die so many times becuase the depression and sadness was just too hard to fight.Today she takes life one day at a time. She is labeled mentally ill for the rest of her life.
Another case in point a battered wife leaves her kids,husband and everything else behind and doesn't look back. She completely changes her identity and people assumed she killed herself. WAS she leaving her mind?
Another woman has tried to kill herself 40 times. Beleive me when I tell you she should be dead but her life isn't finished yet.
A person with severe mood wswings teeters between anger and rage and one day in a rage kills a person who made derrogatroy comments to him for years. Was he mentally ill? Did he really know what he was doing?
I am asking you this because a true mentally ill person has no recolection of what is going on. Volunteer at a psyc hospital and observe the depressed people who fight for their lives just to survive the next day. The women who get beaten every day lose themselve somewhere and survival mode takes over. Its a natural instinct it doesnt make her mentally ill,
The people who hear voices read "I know this much is true" byWally Lamb and get a true front stage pass into the mind of a skitzophrenic mind.
When these illness consume your life are you mentally ill then? DO you deserve that label because you can't crawl out from this black hole we call depression?
How do women of other countries who watch their children die and see the things they see and our treated as bad as the women of the taliban not fall prey to what we do in america?
We have become a prozac nation. Where did this come from? One person suggested our warped sense of personal body image and what we believe we are suppose to be come.If a heavy woman goes to south africa she is treated like a queen, Here she is spat upon.
Can we be part of the cure? Yes we can stop judging people by the standards america set. We can start treating all people equally and know we all came from the same place no matter who your ancesestors are.
Even in my daughter kindergarden class they are divided. You have Olivia who is miss america. my daughter who is the girl next door, the disgusting kid. the fat kid. the lazy kid. GIVE ME A BREAK!
As a parent how do you see your own kid? What if your own kid isnt as popular as you like. So where does that take you?
I am pointing this out because just like in the movie crash it comes right back in full circle. Be part of the cure!
Many people who are mentally ill have a genetic dispositon to becoming that way. Rarely do people 'just snap' unless they have a problem associated with something else. So we all can help each other by providing love and support to one another.

Amen .I was trying to say that without actually saying it. That should be a given.I think sharing family history with future generations would also be beneficial.In our family there is bi-polar and anxiety but due to the shame no one wants to admit to it.
When I was agoraphobic my parents pointed the finger at eachother. NO one wanted to say well grandpa and grandma or uncle so and so had it. They just said it just happened.
