Anti- Feminist women?

I was searching through blogs and I saw that this one woman said that one of her dislikes was "Feminists." Now, I'm all for freedom of opinion but some things I don't particularly understand. How can you not like feminists? Feminists are the reason women have the right to vote. They are the reason that women have come so far within the work place- the reason women have gotten out of the house and off their back. Feminists are one of the reasons that girls and women can go to school and get a quality education. How can you have such a deep dislike for feminists?

I could understand why a man might be against feminists but why a woman (maybe that in itself it sexist)? Without feminists would women have come as far as they have in society?

Maybe I'm just being rediculous. Or maybe she meant radical feminists... I mean honestly, who likes those? Mater of fact, who likes radical anything?

Okay, now I'm getting off topic. Feminism, yay or nay? Is it even needed anymore? I mean we are all really equal in a legal sense. Then again there is still gender discrimination with in the work place and not to mention schools (sports teams, mainly)... but again, that could be taken care of in court.

Now I'm just being wishy-washy and I think I've lost sight on the original reason of the post. He he..., whatever. What's your stance on whole subject?

I think that some people think of all feminists today as being radical, as maybe they think that we are at a steady place now, between the sexes, and any feminist movement to push for more is excessive. Also, I think some women have "traditional" values, and they, themselves, believe the woman's place is in the home.

Rather than "feminism," I'm for the equality of both genders. It seems that feminism today, unfortunately, has distorted into a more radical form and tends to promote women above men, making men the subordinate gender.

women above men

That's absolutely not true. You may as well call me a male feminist because I cannot be silent in a system where women make 75.5 cents for every dollar that men earn. If that's radical, you can call me radical. Demanding social justice and standard of living has been characterized by the media as communist, as socialist... it's time to call it American!

HA! There is no equality between genders or races. We need MORE radicals demanding social justice!

(off topic: And by the way, I do believe in democratic socialism and stand very much against capitalism.)

Specifically why do you prefer democratic socialism over regulated capitalism?
I will not argue for one over the other, because I don't know enough about their differences.

Capitalism serves the interests of a few at the cost of the many. It promotes discrimination, greed, and corruption.

Democratic socialism is anti-authoritarian, provides for all, and gives the people more control, as opposed to a corporation-controlled state.

Right, that's why it's essential that it's regulated, which you did NOT address. I wonder which system the New Deal Programs would fall under...

Have you heard of an economic system called the Caring Economy?

I wouldn't say that our capitalist system is regulated really. Statistically, white males are still making more money than anyone else for doing the exact same job. Isn't that discrimination? We still have a lot of discrimination, greed, and corruption, through both the government and society.

The New Deal programs are essentially a small step to socialism I would think.

No, I haven't heard of that economic system.

Feminist = person who believes women should have equal rights and opprotunities as men.

I'd hope everyone, men and women, would believe that...

I think it is hard to define a feminist. I personally am all for equal rights in the work place etc but at the same time, women's basketball is one of the most boring things I have ever watched. Now because I don't like women's basketball somebody may say I am not a feminist but I still consider myself one because I think all men and women should be equal. Most likely the case is that extreme feminists would be the ones to criticize me for not supporting women's basketball but some non-extreme feminist also may criticize me. It is a hard call to make.

Green Underbelly's picture

I think the person who challenges your right to not dig women's basketball is more likely to be a sports enthusiast than a feminist. I'm not saying it's impossible to be both.

But I naturally question that someone who thinks you're sexist or something for not being a WNBA fan is a feminist. Doesn't that sound nutty?

There are still plenty of girls out there who don't believe that they can even handle equal rights, and who believe the media's fantastic image of the "man-hating, lesbian Femi-Nazi" who wants nothing more than to relegate all men to a subservient position, anyway she can... ::dunh, dunh, dunnnhh::

Of course there are "feminists" out there who refuse to use that word to describe themselves. The best example I think is the Womanist movement, which is an African-American feminist movement concerned with bringing the issues of race and class to the discussion which was dominated by a White Middle-to-Upper-Class feminine point of view. Personally, I ascribe more to bell hooks idea of the womanist view of things.

I can't stand feminists! And yes I am a woman. They are nothing but mean, selfish, ingrates and I would never want to be one. Thank God I am a real woman, not a feminist.

What type of feminists don;t you like? What about them? Why? I'm really curious to know.

I know a few feminists. Honestly, it gets annoying when everything somehow ends up being gender-related. I'm an equalist (I don't know that there is a simple word for it), I guess. I think everyone should be equal, regardless of fender, sexual orientation, race, or class.
