"When a black baby is born, it's black. When a black man is angry, he is black. When a black man is sick, he is black. Whe he dies, he is black. However, when a white baby is born, they're purple. When they are sick, they're green. When they're angry, they're red. When they're embarassed, they turn pink. When they die, they turn blue." He then says, "So which one of us is truly colored?"
Although this is funny, it is very true. After that question posted about if interracial marriage should be illegal, forced, or accepted, I kept thinking about how racism is never going to go away. Especially if we have to ask a question like that.
I know people might feel "comfortable" being with people of their own color. That's only because we have set up stereotypes of every "race." We are all part of one race. The human race. So no matter how you feel about African Americans, white people, Hispanics, Indians, or anyone else for that matter everyone should be treated with respect.
I didn't have many black people as my friends. I'm not being racist, but because of the area I grew up in (a small rich white town) and where I went to school (all white people), I just didn't have much of an opportunity to make different friends. Once I started working, I met people from all countries and who were different than me. It has widened my perspective on people.
About that question about interracial marriage. Yes, in some areas people might stare at the couple, but if they're in love who's going to stop there. There is no law against it. It definately shouldn't be forced, since we should be free to marry who we choose. We are all created equal, just with different skin tones.

who is a black girl. She once told me that she dates white guys but doesn't see herself marrying one. She wanted to marry a guy "with color." I asked her if white guys with suntans counted (tan is a color)
I honestly don't understand people not being comfortable with interacial couples. But then again, I grew up surrounded by mix-raced cousins, so I guess I just recieved more exposure to the idea of interacial relationships.
