Procrastination: That Habit I Can't Kick

Sometime around middle school, I discovered something terrible--though it was wonderful at the time. I learned that I could get away with putting my homework off until the last minute, and that whenever I did end up doing it, I would get the same A grade I would have gotten had I done it ahead of time.

So I've been doing it ever since. Though now, with high school courses being more challenging and what not, I can't really just get away with half-assing my work. I do put effort into it, it's just that when I do, it's far too late at night for me to be up. And then I get stressed, and tired, and cranky. Bad things happen.

But I know that I'm not alone. Because, when I'm up at some ungodly hour finishing a paper, I can always count on my AIM buddy list to list countless peers and classmates, undoubtedly working on the same damned paper.

I talk to people about my problem, they assume that I must have some terribly busy schedule, I must play some sport, do SOMETHING to keep me from my work.

That's the thing, though. I don't do SHIT. Yes, I take a bunch of rigorous classes, I'm smart (or so you would think). But all those hours I'm not doing homework? I swear, I just sit doing nothing. And no, I'm not wasting my hours on MySpace or Facebook or texting or any of the classic teen pasttimes. I don't believe in social networking. I just don't do ANYTHING. So that's what makes my procrastination different from others, I think.

As I type this, there's some chemistry homework I should be working on.

So there's one answer. Maybe I spend too much time on this site?

(no dice. I just joined this today. Enough rambling.)

I deal with my habit later....maybe tomarrow or next wenesday....

Just so you know you can NOT do that in college. there's way too much reading and if you put shit off until the last minute, you're getting a D, no questions asked. So plan on doing your nothingness when there's really nothing to do....because there's no point in failing a class in college that you're actually paying money for!

I do this too. I don't do squat in my AP lit class except sleep and borrow my friend's computer to play on it. Yet, I'm still passing it. LIFE IS GOOD.

There is a time to live, and a time to die. But now it the time to break it down!

That's what high school was like for me. My classmates and I would all be up until some crazy hour of the morning writing papers we had neglected to begin. In college this is not such a good idea though. I BSd my way through high school, but I am taking college so much more seriously because my future depends on it, and I actually like my classes. If you are a serious student, you will be able to overcome procrastination. I NEVER thought I would be writing a paper in advance, and I didn't even conciously start getting more disciplined, it just happened.

So there's hope for me yet!
I probably have some homework to do now.

in the dictionary next to procrastination...Rock on...you will learn. I used to fall asleep in the computer lab and classmates (in college) would come get me for class...

wow, i could not have said it any better. I feel the same as you. i am a senior in high school, and as i am writing this, this very moment i am suppose to be writing a paper on the child development and its stages. don get me wrong i will get the paper completed by tonight and make at least a B on it. but the question is why don't i just start it now. well because i just don feel like it. I consider myself a smart person and my grades prove it but i am good at slacking and making the same grades as others do by doing less work. embrace your ability to procrasinate. who cares when you start just as long as you get it done and well by the time it is due. i find that forceing yourself to get away from any distraction like going to the library (but not getting on a computer), helps a lot. as you go on you will learn that it is not all bad to procrasinate. just don stress out and give yourself enough time to get every thing you need completed, completed
