How old is too old to start?

How old is too old to start?

Here I am 27 years old, navy wife and mother of 3. I have a personal business that I run in my home (a licensed children's daycare), and I am very content with the things that I have accomplished in my life time. However, I have lost sight of the goals I had set for myself as a teenager.

When I was 16 I knew just how my life would lead. I would head straight to college as soon as I graduated. Once I finished my masters degree, I would head straight to medical school, and without taking any time off, head straight into my residency. I had planned to be a pediatrician and practicing within 8 years of my graduating high school.

I never dreamed that during my senior year of high school I would meet the most amazing guy and fall head over heals in love, and be getting married 2 1/2 months before I graduated high school. From there it is pretty straight forward, my husband joined the U.S. Navy 8 months after we married, we had our first baby during our second year of marriage and follow with two others during the next five years. We have been stationed in a few different places in the world, which has been amazing.

Even though things have been wonderful in my life, I still feel like something is missing, and I know that is the education that I had always dreamed. So here I am 27 years old and just now starting on my dream. I know that I will not get as far as Medical school, but I still would like to acquire my BS.

So now I ask you again- How old is too old to start?

Its quite funny. I'm am in my last year of High School, putting off a drama essay as we speak, and i have the same goal as you had. Move straight into residence and do a phycology degree. However the knight in shinning armour is yet to arrive :) .

But as for your question, too old to start? Of course not, Learning and earning is a continuous thing. If you dont exersise your brain you may certainly ebd up losing it. At least you have had the kids and now start the career, rather than get caught up in a career and have no time left for kids. Sorry if this comment seems too intrusive on your life, as dont even know you an i am commenting on it.

I say go for it, better you start now than at 37.

I agree with kazzie, better start now than starting later. You will end up regretting not starting earlier.

It's never too old to start. As long as you're determined to do something, there shouldn't ever be a reason why you should hesitate to do it. I know some people who are in their mid 40s and they're still schooling, so there's nothing wrong with that. The want to learn is a great thing to have in this world.

I was starting to live the dream you had. Went through my undergrad, and in leiu of going to get my masters, I was heading straight for medical school. And I've been rejected from 5 of 7 schools I applied to, and waitlisted at the other two, with little chance of getting into either. So now I have to figure out what I'm going to do for the next two years before I try to apply again.

There are people entering medical school in their 40's and 50's as a second career. No worries about going back for your bachelor's now.

It's never too late to start something you set yourself to do. As long as you have the passion and determination to do something then more power to you. I just hope that there are more people in the world like you, people who are determinded to do something they want and know they can. ^ ^

Thanks you guys for all your encouragement. I think I just needed to hear that you are never to old to start. :dances:

Your welcome.
