I like John Mayer's music. It seems to reach out to everyone. Whether it’s his happy and upbeat tunes to his slow and purposeful ballads, everyone can relate. John Mayer's song "Waiting on the World to Change" is a very powerful and moving song. However, this brings a question to mind; WHY are we waiting on the world to change? Every day, people are getting murdered, violence is intensifying in Iraq, celebrities are getting praised for doing despicable things, promiscuous lifestyles are glamorized, the news is being shifted to meet the political views of the station manager, the job market is getting bad, there IS a recession (that’s another entry), and political giants are attacking each other. There is no doubt about it, the world is getting worse. By waiting and maintaining silence, we are only accomplices in letting the world deteriorate. Sorry John, but now is the time for action and definitelyNOT waiting. Older people (i.e. Parents and Grandparents) say teenagers don't stand for anything or that teenagers don't have a voice. Little do they realize that we are the ones who will put the next President in office. Plain and simple, if we don't like it, we won't vote for it. Let's not wait to change the world, let's show America that we have a voice and that we ARE changing the world.
Why Are We Waiting?

I truly think that we have to wait on the world to change...if we didn't then all of those problems would be fixed already...I do agree that all the issues you bring up are major and do need fixed...but we are waiting on the world to change b/c we have to change ourselves...we have to stop glorifying all the bad and such...so we are in a holding pattern until it happens...it's quite unfortunate
I see your point, but the major flaw is that people would like to change someone else rather than themselves. People don't change to suit the needs of someone else. I'm willing to bet that when a burglar robs a jewelry store he doesn't think to himself, "If i didn't take these diamonds, the world will be a better place." When the burglar goes to jail after getting caught and is later released, he goes back and does the same thing all over again. INSTEAD OF WAITING for this person to see the error of their ways, the prison system should be making a conscious effort to change all criminals and at least try to clean up this decent world. You can sentence murderers to life, but the jail can only hold so many prisoners. Shouldn't we change them and let them free? There is no need to wait on them to change because they probably won't.

no that's exactly what I'm saying...we have to be willing to change...but no matter how much we say we are we just aren't or we would've already...if each person really committed to one little change to better themselves the world would be such a better place
I believe, that by being in Iraq, we are changing the world a little bit. True, lots of people are dying. But think; What would it be like if Saddam Hussein was still in power? And, in my opinion, more people would be dead if we hadn't invaded.
If more people would have died, they would not have been Americans. Families would not have to worry if their husbands or fathers will come back. The government wouldn't be in as much debt as we are in now. If we hadn't invaded, Saddam would have eventually resigned or gotten sick ( Cuba anyone?). Americans should be more focused about whats going on in "the bad part of town" rather than a country that people forgot existed.

thank you for that one...I didn't want to have to be the bad guy (or girl) to point all of that out...plus in any circumstance isn't the price of innocent lives subverting the goal of bettering life...by taking it away...that just doesn't make sense.
