Colorado High School Principal Bans Patriotic Clothing Etcetera

Tagged:  •    •

A Colorado high school put a ban on patriotic clothing of any kind including but not limited to camouflage items. They also banned students from bringing the American flag to school, but still fly it outside of the school and in classrooms.

The principal is the one who set the ban into effect, and claims it was in order to stop the tension between the Mexican's bringing flags etcetera and others who were against this.

Personally, I think the bringing of Mexican flags to school should be banned. If a person so wants to represent another country then they can very well go live there. If they don't like it here then leave! It's really not that hard... oi...

If you ask me this is an outrage. You shouldn't be able to ban an American from wearing something that represents their own country, the one you're in as well, or carrying an American flag. That's just stupid! You live in America dumbass, you might as well be proud of it and let others express that! If you don't like it here get out, not saying that the principal doesn't like it here, just a view of mine.

I agree completely. We're in America, so I feel that only American flags should be risen here, and I wouldn't expect anyone to wave around American flags in France or Spain or something. If someone's so patriotic about their country, they should just move back there.

America's supposed to be about free expression. People can still be proud of the countries that they come from and be Americans.

There's a difference between being proud of where you came from vs. being "Anti-American."

The "go back to where you came from" argument is getting kind of old. Hey, we know we're in America. Why do we need to carry an American flag around school to say that?

This immigration issue is going to get really bad. There are good and bad points on either side. Thirty years from now we'll probably still be fighting about the issue. One thing worse than throwing religion into an argument, like we've done for so long with abortion, is throwing patriotism into it.

There is nothing wrong with people standing up for their heritage. It's so sickening to see that people in this country STILL think you have to erase your culture to be accepted in America.

I wonder what the majority's attitude would be if living conditions in the United States were a 100 times worse and we were risking our lives and our family's lives to immigrate to another country?

I don't think a person has to erase their culture in order to be accepted in America. That's now the view I was trying to express. The fact that people choose to carry around the flag of another country to me shows support for that other country, and I just don't think that's right. If you live in America you should be proud of where you live today, not of a country that your mother or father came from, or where your aunt or uncle still lives. I'm all for the keeping of the culture, but a bringing a flag is bringing more than culture my friend.

How do you figure that displaying a flag from another country says something more than just being proud of the place your ancestors came from?

It's a cheap piece of plastic or cloth, not an entire country. And, the same goes with the american flag. Just because you own a flag doesn't mean you love your country anymore.

Having a foreign flag is not the problem..our government and the way they've treated immigrants is the problem.

Hey, maybe I'll display a german, american, and portuguese flag. I'm not afraid to go against the so-called patriotic grain.

The problem is that the banning of the flags comes from rallies having to do with illegal immigrants being forced back into their home countries. They are carrying the mexican flags to show that they have pride in who they are and are fighting to stay here. I feel that the issue isn't staying here, it's staying here ILLEGALLY... if you want to be part of the country, earn the citizenship just like the rest of the legal immigrants had to do. Then you show respect for our country, and then I would say fly that Mexican flag as high and as proud as you want.
