So I have been learning about the Israel-Palestine conflict in school. I have heard speeches from both sides (the Palestine side and the Israeli side). I understand how both sides feel to some extent. The Jewish people feel like it is their homeland and it is something that they are very well connected to. After the Holocaust, the Jewish people felt like they needed somewhere safe to call home. While at the same time, the Palestinians felt like they shouldn't have to be forced off the land that their ancestors lived on for 800 odd years. What are you opinions on this conflict? How much do you know? I have to say that after learning about both sides I feel more strongly for the Palestine people; as in I empathize with them a great deal more. If you feel like the Jewish people in Israel have it worse it might be because of the way the United States portrays Israel in the news. They don’t portray them as being the murders of so many Palestinians. If a Palestine happens to be killed, the news reports it by saying that they died because they lashed out and got what they deserved. Or the deaths of Palestinians simply aren’t reported at all. If you look at what the US is saying about the conflict compared to other nations it is a lot different. It isn’t being reported correctly, why is this? Think about it, the US spends 1/3 of are foreign aid money on Israel. Why would they portray Israel badly in the news then? That would just make our government look hypocritical. Sadly all this money is not going to good use, it is going to supporting their troops with guns to use against the Palestine people. With all this aid the Israeli government has built up a massive army. While the Palestinian territories have no way of defending themselves because they don't have an army. What is worse than this is that the Israeli government is building Jewish communities around settlements of Palestinians. Basically circling them in so them are more or less in a prison. If a Palestine person wants to go anywhere they have to pass through checkpoints. Maybe they just want to get through the checkpoints to see a relative or even go to the hospital. Doing so is extremely hard for them. Additionally, the Israeli government is building a wall, because they want to keep suicide bombers from entering Israel. However, it seems like they are doing this more as means to take land from the Palestinians. It is a difficult conflict to resolve. It is a conflict that has been in progress ever since Israel won its independence in 1948. It seems like progress in the direction of peace is a very slow process So what do you think...what do you know? You tax money is going to Israel so you should be educated….you should care.
