Nobel Prize? No thanks.

Ok so try to put this one into perspective. Jean-Paul Sartre was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1964. But, he declined saying that he always refused official honors and he didn't like being part of institutions.

I'm curious to what people think of this. Personally, I think it is a very bold and somewhat admirable move. Although it may seem a bit pompous, it is a very powerful statement nonetheless.

Satre always wanted to be different. Plus, he had some political believes that promoted so much equality, that he didn't want to be 'higher' than other. It was though a surprising attitude at the time (because along with the Noble prize you get a considerable amount of money AND the fame!)

Ok, but what is your opinion. The background info is nice, but easily accessible.

Don't they get money out of it? Very bold..
