War on Terrorism: A Wonderful Idea

In my humble opinion, the idea of a world free from terrorism is one that is worthy of aspiring towards. Unfortunately for the USA, it is nothing more than that: an idea. Think about it--we have forced these people, the future of our society, into a land in which we are hated. Not in the way that you hate your neighbor's annoying dog that uses your perfectly pruned front lawn as their personal toilet, but the irrational, all-consuming hate. Am I implying that all inhabitants of the Middle East hate Americans? Of course not. Am I implying that the majority of them do? Not so much. I am, however, implying that the ones with the power[both money and fire] and the voice hate our presence.

Originally, I would have agreed that the United States had a valid reason for shoving their collective nose in other people's business. But that was with the memory of September 11, 2001 fresh in my mind. Now, with all of the information that has been revealed since then, I believe that we have long outstayed our welcome. But [and this is a major, jumping-up-and-down-screaming-for-attention but], there is no longer a way to bow out gracefully and not see the region explode in conflict.

So what would I propose we do now? I have no earthly idea, but that is why I am typing this at home and not sitting behind a desk in an office in Washington, D.C. I do know that we need to learn from this mistake, if I may be so bold as to call it so, and realize that even if we are a superpower, we need to deal with our own issues before we take on the world's. This is a fight that has been going on for CENTURIES. What makes our esteemed and all-knowing leaders think that one country providing for a common enemy will accomplish anything other than decimating an entire generation? We, as a nation, need to lose the superiority-meets-hero complex and fix our problems. Without using war as population control.
