If alcohol is a depressant than why do people tend to drink more when they are depressed? I think its a way to escape into a world of "I don't give a f***k" and the night is being built on nothing but regret. I have to say that its very hard to tell what a drunk person really wants to do. You try to protect your friends from the harm that they will inflict upon themselves but, do they really, really want to do that? Will this be something that they will regret the rest of their lives or was the alcohol a way to get the guts to do it? Personally I have nothing against alcohol, hell I drink myself but, on occasion and you can't shut me up the rest of the might. I believe that you can also have regrets as the sober friend; where you felt like it was your responsibility and your duty to ensure that they got home safe. In the end we all have our regrets whether we experience them first hand or not.

Depression and depressants really have nothing to do with one another. Personally, I prefer pot and acid, but it really has nothing to do with escaping anything. It's more of a social lubricant/mind expansion thing.

The INCREDIBLE Hauck
Depression and depressants are related. Depressed or depressing is a description of your physical state. Depression is a condition and by using a depressant will not the situation better since it is a mental condition. You can be depressed but not suffer from depression. A person takes anti-depressants to improve their current mental state.
Anti-depressants are not the opposite of depressants. Stimulants are the opposite of depressants. Depressant refers to the effect that the drug has on your body/nervous system. Anti-depressants release certain chemicals (MAO, Seratonin, or Dopamine depending on the drug) into the brain, effecting your mood, rather than your body and nervous system. Depression is a mental condition, not a physical one.
