I have your basic winter sore throat, runny nose, and hacking cough combo. I don't know why but today I have just begun to see how dependent I am upon modern medicine to fix even the littlest thing For this winter combo alone I find myself taking Advil, Tylenol, cough medicine, mucus release pills, among other things. I never seem to hesitate to pop a pain relief pill here or a cough drop there.
People have become so used to popping pills for every little thing that we don't stop to think twice about what is going into our bodies. How much is too much? When should we try the line? Do we really need to take all of these pills and syrups? Is the media playing a role in our lack of thinking before placing medicine in our mouths? Are the commercials getting to me somehow? Am I a victim? Am I perhaps over thinking?
My father is a drug addict. Crack cocaine is his weakness. Maybe it is stupid but I wonder could something as "harmless" as cough syrup or Advil end up being mine? These are the things that I will be thinking about tonight. More at a later date....
