Recession

When my math teacher first told me that our country was going into a recession, and that the American dollar was become less and less stable, I didn’t think it would affect me directly. I have a job that wasn’t laying off anybody, and if things got really hard I would probably just grow veggies or something like that. What I didn’t factor in to my security was the fact that businesses would probably raise their prices.

So when I went to Subway on Thursday and ordered a BMT (because that is the special that day) I expected to pay $3.25, but after my sandwich was made and I was checking out it was rung up as $4.99. Luckily I had enough money in my wallet, but still, I could have gotten Teriyaki (which is what I really wanted) for that much. So I ended up not saving the dollar I had planned to save and not having Teriyaki. I was put down at first, but I mean, we are in a recession, so not having subway anymore was fine with me.

So I was fine until I ordered an Italian Soda at Tully’s, and found out that they are cutting back on fruity syrups, so they don’t make them anymore. Fortunately I had nice baristas, and they said that if I ordered a 7-Up they could make me either a Raspberry, Blackberry, or Orange Italian Soda. Because I really wanted an Italian Soda I said yes, but then, the 7-Up ended up costing me $6.01.

Ok, but there is a good side for me. I work at a box making company, and because most of our products are exported to different countries, business has been booming. All these other countries want to buy stuff from America while our dollar is down, so perhaps there is some hope.

I just want to know how other people have been affected by our little recession.

another job. I have looked but places aren't hiring as much. The reason? They have cut my hours to 8 and 5 hours a week. I can't live on this.

Also I am wonderful at saving money. But I can't save very much at all now. I used to easily be able to save up a 1,000 in 4 or 6 months. Now I can barely save a dime.

Each time I go into the grocery the food prices go up. You can't get anything for a dollar anymore. Milk is around $3 for a gallon. It used to be 1.50. I ordered a 5 dollar pizza from little caesars and they said well it has gone up. It will be 6 dollars now because dairy has went up.

Good blog I like how you related to the recession in your own persective. I believe it will get worse. I hope we won't enter a depression. But one of the biggest banks on wall street went out of business a few weeks ago. This was a bad sign. Bush says he will be taking action. But...that was a funny statement to make. Bush taking action. *laughs hysterically* sorry I found that funny.
