This in someways is gross so I will pre warn you. You should NEVER ever let the hospital take your adnoids out. They told me if they were inflamed that they would and they did for the extra money. Please do not let them take them out tell them i want my adnoids. By NOT taking them out you will definately benefit. The following reasons why they say you should get them out are not in any way true:
1. This will help your allergies. NO it will not it made mine even worse.
2. you will breath better. again not true I do breath better but it is because my tonsils were taken out.
3. You have 8 (or something like that) other filtration systems. You may have 8 filtration systems but adnoids need to stay as another one.
4. If they are inflamed that means they will be a constant problem. Trust me I would have been better off with my adnoids and i bet you that they weren't inflamed.
I found out the hard way the reasons why to NOT get your adnoids out. They outweigh the "good" reason Here are some reasons why:
1. If you drink something too fast it will come out of your nose. I had that happen with a soda that was not fun.
2. If you spray perfume or any spray item and accidently spray too much if you smell it you more than likely will taste it. unwillingly i might add.
3. If you get sick and get a virus or stomach related problem where you throw up guess where it is also coming out. It is very nasty
4. Every day when I wake up in the morning my allergies keep me from doing anything for about an hour. I go through alot of tissues.
I beg everyone please don't get your adnoids out or if anyone has children don't let them get them out either. Although this is not severe problems it is very disgusting and you are better off with adnoids. The person who takes them out just wants to make extra money. Don't believe them when they say you will benefit because you really won't at all.

I had never even heard of adnoids, but I'm truely greatful for this message of yours. That's a scary thought, and I appreciate your perspective.
An adenoid (which I spelled wrong in the post) are clusters of tissue that are behind your nose that keep you from getting sick.
Very interesting to hear from someone who has actually had it done. They have suggested doing it for my son but I was opposed from the start.
Your input in regards to the operation not making a difference for you in your breathing, allergies etc.... was informative.
You can vocalize this, my 2 year old cannot so I wouldn't have known if he was having an easier time or not. Although it might just work for some but just didn't work out for you, who knows.
I will stick with not taking them out for now and explore other options. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for telling everybody about this. I never knew I had these and what kind of effect they can make on your life. I would hate for stuff to be coming out of my nose. I bet it burns at times doesn't it? And there is nothing they can do about stuff coming out of your nose ? Sorry they looked at you as a money maker.
Yeah this really does suck, it doesn't happen to much anymore but if I were to get a stomach virus and throw up it would be coming out of my nose also. It is so gross. There is nothing they can do. They did look at me as a money maker and it pissed me off because it kind of screwed up certain functions that I stated. It does burn sometimes and I can taste it when I don't want to. Omg you just don't know how gross it is. I'm glad you know now...

I had the water out of the nose problem after having my tonsils out. For me, it was any time my head was tilted forward, such as drinking at a water fountain. It has progressed, and now I can at least drink a small amount from a fountain.
Mine wenk OK at best, but I probably would have died if I didn't have it done. My poor tonsils were so big I could barely breathe.

The doctor actually gasped when he looked at them and he does it for a living. I couldn't breathe at all either. Adnoids though were unnessicary to take out. They are right behind your nose kinda. That was what has made me miserable to this day were my adnoids.

Ouch. That must have been a rough recovery. They debated whether or not to take mine out, but they had to remove so much stuff around my throat they decided not to. They even had to take my uuvula! It was so upsetting. I was the girl with no uuvula! The recovery wasn't painful, but it was not easy on my bod. I had to go back in the hospital once for dehydration, and went down to 98 lbs. That's not bad for someone that's 5'2", but I'm 5'8.5" with an athletic build. I looked like a skeleton, and it hurt to sit on wooden chairs. :(

Jeez yeah that is pretty rough I feel for you. Why did they have to take your uvula out? My recovery was rough and they said it won't be. First off I had to get my tonsils out 2 months after my mom was pretty much killed by the hospital so I flipped out. They had to give me extra meds. Then the nurse didn't know how to put an IV in so she was jabbing it into my right hand and I woke up and my IV was in my left hand...I thought I was losing it. I had a huge bruise that was about the size of a tennis ball on my right hand and my hands are really really tiny. Besides the second bruise on my left hand.
Everything i ate tasted like shit. I could only drink water and gained weight. I gain weight if I drink water. I was great until the hospital meds wore off then I was taking the liquid lortab 10. That was some good pain killer though even though it makes me sick. :(.
Sounds like you went through worse than me though sorry about that. That was the worst pain I have had besides when I had walking pnemonia and pulled a muscle in my chest and throat from coughing. I lost like 40 lbs in a month because I couldn't swallow. I haven't been sick in 2 years though *knock on wood* I used to get broncidious every winter.

Okay, this is gross, but basically I went to the doctor once, and all she did was take some blood tests and determine that nothing was wrong. After that, my parents wouldn't take me back to the doctor. It got worse and worse, and for about a month and a half my throat was huge. By the time they took me to the ER, my throat was so big that there was a hole about the size of a pea or smaller. Basically, I had an infection in the back of my throat that had eaten away part of my throat underneath the skin part and caused it to swell. My poor uuvula wasn't salvageable.
I wouldn't necessarily say that my experience was worse than yours. Mine was just physically painful, but I'm really good at blocking out physical pain so it wasn't that bad to me. It was kinda like a challenge (yeah, I'm way too competitive). Yours sounds like it was both physically and mentally painful, and mental pain is really hard to block out. I did have some IV problems too, though. They did my right hand and that vein collapsed, then the left hand vein collapsed a few hours later. They ended up putting a childrens' size needle in my foot. My arms were so bruised from all the blood samples that I looked like I had been beaten up.

I would rather go to the hospital in the larger town than my local one. They charge you lots in the ER and send you home with just minor meds ($700) per er visit.... 6 weeks later another attack you crawl to that other hospital in larger city. One xray proved what the other should have done.....loose a gall bladder.
I would like to get my tonsils out for one reason alone. I get cheesy tonsils ie hholes so either htey come out on own or i poke them out. either way if i leave or take them out im gagging. I would love to see them gone.
I have had my nose straightened. But also when i get a bloody nose....it will eventually come ou t of my mouth.

$700 for an ER visit with meds is cheap where I live. I went after falling down a flight of stairs once (dumb move, I was carrying two backpacks!), and it was close to $3000 for a 15-minute visit.

This was with insurance they tried to charge about 1400 each

I came across this page researching adenoids in general. I had them taken out when I was a young child, so I was surprised to see much of what I read here.
I have not have any of the problems you encountered. Granted I there is an age difference and it may be due to having adjusted at a young age. I would almost like to suggest going to another doctor to make sure the procedure was done correctly.
In the past when I would get sick at my stomach and have to throw up, it never came out of my nose, and neither have my drinks if I drink to fast. Again, maybe it is an age difference thing, where having had them taken out when I was young allowed me to adjust growing up, but I would like to suggest going to another doctor to make sure everything is okay and the procedure was done correctly. You shouldn't be experiencing most of those symptoms.
omg. i had my adnoids out a long time. the medical doctor didn't even say he was going to take them out. my parents and I were under the impression that I was just going to get my tonsils out.
and i know what you mean about spraying fluids out of your nose
i also have problems when i swim.
and another nasty problem, my nose is never clear.
They get 3,000 dollars to take your adnoids out. I did not want mine out either. That also happens to me when I swim I will choke on the water when my mouth is not even open. The doctors will just do what they want. That is what they ar good at. It sucks that a person must suffer.
