The buzz at my high school is buying class rings. The question remains, is it worth the money spent on the ring? For example, valentines day has drained some peoples pockets and it is not like we are getting married that we need a high school ring. I believe that the jewelry companies are taking our money and that people have become too obsessed with matirialized objects.
Why do we pay so much for graduation? I believe people should get rewarded for their outstanding achievements in highschool to not have to buy the rings etc. For example, if the rings were only available to the achievements of individuals, I believe that the high school system will have their standards exceeded. However, profit would be low and I would be ignorant to ignore that opposition. This is probably where benefactors are needed to help the well being of a school.
However, instead of seeking benefactors I would like to propose the idea of requiring students to volunteer to not only help the community, but gain an insight of realizing what hard work is. Some students do not work to receive their material objects. I believe a class ring is a want, but I will never fully comprehend why class rings in high school are inquired by some students as a necessity.

I got a class ring during high school only because my mom made me.
She said, "If you don't get one, you'll want one later."
I disagreed, of course.
But, I'm glad that I have one.
I wear it everyday.
And I'll probably continue to wear it.
But, I'm not really sure that I've ever seen it as a necessity.
Nor do I understand the need for one.
It's just another piece of jewelry, that you most likely won't be able to find, especially if you don't place that much value on it.
I was on my own through high school, and it sucked. There's so much stuff to buy- cheer uniforms, rings, pictures, etc. I didn't buy the invitations and stuff. I just sent out homemade ones I got from the Dollar Store. In fact, I didn't even get Senior pictures made. I had so many pics of me and my friends, and I cherish those much more than any professional pics I've ever bought. Just ditch the norm and get creative- people will be wowed when you show them what you did instead of spending hundreds on crap that doesn't even matter.
