Where To Start?

I found the details of this blog/scholarship/program/whatever you want to call it though a Fastweb email the other day. I didn't pay much attention to it, because let's face it...I'm a high school senior with a part time job, and I play sports - I'm busy. I was cleaning out my email at the end of the week and I realized this one actually sounded like a scholarship I was really interested in, shocking. I realized that yeah, I do have some things to say, and this seems like a great outlet for it, so why not?

...and I dove in.

In my english class this year, my teacher keeps stressing that because we are in an AP class we need to not only read and write like college students already, but think like one. To get us in this mindset, I guess, she has us keep up with current events with weekly journal entries. This year long assignment started out as a real bore, I'm not going to lie, but as the year's progressed I've found myself actually enjoying keeping up with the news.

For one thing, I'm way more politically informed than I would have been otherwise. I know the major candidates and I have my own thoughts and standpoints on big issues, and even smaller ones as well. I know so much about a subject I barely had any interest in a few months ago. I have seventeen weeks of high school left, and seventeen more weeks of current event journals to write, but keeping up with what is really going on in the world will definitely be something I continue long after graduation.

I can't stress enough, after learning this myself, that younger people really need to stay informed with what is going on. I know so many of my classmates will be leaving high school with no ideas about politics ("I'm voting for Obama because I don't like Hillary Clinton and I don't know who that other guy is"), have no idea what is going on overseas ("Are we still in Iraq? Oh that sucks"), and have no idea about opportunities or life changes that can come from these issues.

I could probably go on about this forever, but I need some sleep, and I need to do some current events actually, so that's it for now. If someone got all the way through this, it's appreciated =]

I think you're going to like it here, and as far as blogs go, this was a quick breeze.

I think your teacher would be very pleased to know that the assignment affected your outlook so heavily.

It's true, tell them.
