While it's good to look up to others, I find myself baffled at those kids today who idolize people like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, or Lindsay Lohan. <!--break--> Each of these girls has continually proven that they are unworthy of holding such a high position in the hearts of their fans all over the world. Sure, they're good-looking, but they are absolute idiots!!
Have we become so shallow that we no longer even bother to look past the beauty to check and see if there are any brains at ALL inside of their heads? Do we no longer value intelligence, integrity, morals, modesty, and ACTUAL talent?! (I'll be one of the first to admit that Spears and Simpson have good singing voices, but their music isn't anything special, really. They could be using their God-given talent for SO MUCH more!)
So why does this happen? Do we need rolemodels so badly that we look first to those who should be looked at last?

Any cursory glance at pop culture will reveal to you that it isnt about content its about image. This is why I generally reject pop culture. All glitter, no substance.
Yep. But how did we get there?
Today's society is more focused on looks and possessions than on brains or quality of character. Although, I can't even fathom what people see in Paris Hilton...
Unfortunately, our society doesn't value brains the way it does beauty. And beauty sells. It's about making money.
I personally can't figure out what exactly people find so interesting about some of these celebrities. I mean if the greater population stopped buying the magazines that highlight the rise and fall of celebrity status or watching programs just to see what they idiotic thing they are going to say next, then maybe the entertainment industry would figure out that intelligence, morals, integrity, etc. are more important to society than beauty. But, alas, society seems to be stuck in the rut known as the celebrity fixation .
