Hello readers!
This would be my first time blogging! So bare with me if its not the typical read, or even a little odd. Someone please give me tips on how to better my blogs! :)!
Are we a christian nation? Is our government christian?
Back in the day, 1800's, Thomas Jefferson established the separation of church and state. We are now in 2008 (yay!), and we are a thriving nation, in so much progress. Why must america ever second think someones right to marriage? To love? Christianity is an amazing religion, as is every religion; but does that god get to decide america's decisions? The answer is no. Church and government are separate. Human rights are human right; rights for humans are for all humans of the nation.
Are homosexuals not people? Whats so wrong about gays being married? We had a debate in school today, well I did. Pablo and I debated ALL class about what was so wrong with it. It just made me realize how wrong we are to EVER second think it. Pablo's argument was valid, until you actually thought of gays and lesbians as people! I just dont understand how we can say "its a free country" and then deny them of a simple marriage.
I understand how people just dont want to see it, just as you would not want to be at a catholic church if you were jewish. I understand, you dont want to see someone elses beliefes shoved in your face while you walk down the street. (basing this on what Pablo said while comparing this to religion). But rethink it. Your doing the exact same thing. Your influincing children to love the opposite sex, but you dont want anyone to influence them otherwise. There is nothing wrong with being homosexual, love is a beautiful thing.
(Pablo's real name is classified :] )
Honestly, there is nothing more annoying than seeing people being denied of something I can have. If we arent a christian nation, then whats so wrong about it? I know the US isnt ready for change, just as we arent ready for a black or woman president; heh and especially not a gay president. I know for a fact that the modern world will never be right, what is right anyway? But who are we judge what is wrong?
Call me a romantic, but honestly, these people do deserve the right to marry eachother, its not like they are a sub human race or animals; LOVE IS LOVE. 'These people' vote, breathe, eat, save lives, make a living, cry, laugh, and love. If I want to marry a woman, I'm going to do it, and no religion overpowering ANY nation will hold me back. Love once was something people died for, what happened to that passion? Where people heard love stories and cried, why not cry for them?
No, America should not vote on gay marriages. America should do exactly this: Make it legal in all states. WHATS SO WRONG WITH BEING GAY, LESBIAN, OR BI?
A life is a life, a breath is a breath, a right is a right. Our governments word is an action, and our rights are made to be practiced, not just by rich christian men as before, but by every single citizen, and resident.

P.S. Sorry if its long. Thank you for reading :)!

I agree with you that people should be able to marry anyone of their choice.Since in reality this is not the case for everyone according to the law, I believe that democracy has failed it's purpose when it has come to this point. Democracy is suppose to be a good thing and ethical. It is not ethical to deprive the minority of marrying whomever they chose.
The key to all of this is that state and church are separate. Therefore, there is no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to get married!!!
this is suppose to be a free country and gay marriage does not harm the country in any way so i believe if 2 guys or girls want to get married they should do it
I agree. We all make good points to this cause of allowing this to happen.
"just as you would not want to be at a catholic church if you were jewish."
I actually happen to think that older churches are very nice.
"What a man does for pay is of little significance. What he is, as a sensitive instrument responsive to the world's beauty, is everything!"

This really shouldn't even be an issue. It's really too bad that our politicians want to waste time discussing an issue of freedom and human rights rather than something that actually affects our future, such as education, or homelessness, or our plummiting economy. The purpose of separation of church and state was so that the government could NOT delegate morality. This is a subject that shouldn't need to be discussed; it's unfortunate that this is an issue, but one that does truly need to be finalized.
Regardless of the seperation of church and state and love which is all good. As humans and people who value the constitution, it is our duty to support gays and their struggle. Think about it. What if the gov came into your house and told you you couldn't do something because those people over there don't like you. You would be confused and angry. If I want my rights to stand when I am the outsider (which we all are sometimes) then I have to fight for other people's rights to insure that rights are protected when it is my turn to be the elephant in the room. We compromise our rights when we fail to honor the constitution at all times. We compromise our rights when we deny others their rights. Its simple-Stop doing that!
-Give examples.
-Sources. Give examples such as studies, research, etc, and then provide the sources in proper MLA format. Your argument is far more convincing if you have evidence to back it up, and let people look at your evidence. That's the main key for me in deciding if a post is "good" or not - if it provides strong evidence. Personally I always study each study... I look at the sample size, the methodology, etc, to make sure it's a reliable study to use. For instance if I'm studying the effects of marijuana on cancer, and I come across a study that uses fifteen people... I'm not going to use that study.
i completely agree. rights need to be upheld at all times, or they cease to be rights and become privileges to those that make the decisions.~
