Celebrity Illusion

It sickens me to see the number of moms who have children in the entertainment industry, or who are in it themselves and searching to find fame for their children, who are now turning to reality shows to validate themselves. Many of these have already had disasterous careers themselves, or have one or more children on the road to failure. I cannot believe the fantasy life that many celebrities live in.

How do they think that normal American people live? Many "A-Listers" could not function if dropped off in a normal household to perform everyday functions. I find it sickening that many are making money, and not meager wages, but living it big, by having camera crews follow them around all day as they boss around hired help to do all of their dirty work.

And the more pitiful thing is that we, the people, are funding such nonsense. If there were no market for it, it would go off the air. But somehow we find amusing, almost addicting, to watch these stars sit around and do nothing. I would love to watch the day in the life of a volunteer in Africa, or a cancer patient struggling to find the will to live, or a child realizing his dreams, but not someone rolling in so much money that they have workers to even raise their children for them.

But it seems that the interest in these shows is only on the rise. Am I the only one who is tired of these day in the life of..... shows?

Great post! I have to admit that the first reality shows I was a fan of. There are some that I truly liked. But as the time wears on the plots of these shows are just getting more and more ridiculous. I'm just wondering when it will ever stop? When is society going to say "I'm too smart for this garbage!"?

My dad says we are the dummies that make these people rich by watching their shows. My philosophy instructor said guess and ambercombie would all sell shirts for $20 like everybody else if we boycott them.
People on ProgressiveU, listen up: lets boycott all those markets that rip us off and use our money for such things as these stupid reality shows. And why do sport players get millions a year? I understand that it is physically hard work but seriouly millions a year? That's ridiculous. Our country could be doing so much better without this bull drama that entertains us.
I am going to try to buy only what is worth the value. Anyone with me?

Uh... what?

Maybe I'm missing something [as a none-TV watcher aside from the wonderful House]... but I have no idea what you're talking about or how it pertains to this blog.

Maybe explain, and I could understand ?? :)

I just have flipped through stations lately and it has been senseless crap about watching the lives of all these celebrities and I was adressing the issue of how many americans religously spend hours a week following these shows with no plot or storyline whatsoever. It was something that was on my mind at the time and I wanted to get feedback from other people and see if they had the same view as myself or was I the only one who had this opinion.

I don't watch TV. I have better things to do, and my life is much more entertaining than anything on Prime TIme.

I find it disturbing that celebrities and professional athletes are making more than I will ever make in my lifetime in one year, and I'm working to cure cancer and build bone implants. :(
