I think applying for college scholarships is one of the most frustrating things I have ever done in my life. Honestly I have never wanted to rip my hair out more! Today, I applied for a program at Christopher Newport University, and also tried to get through the FAFSFA application. The FAFSFA application is nearly impossible to understand. I honestly don't think I have ever been more confused in my life. I don't understand anything about taxes, or W2s or anything like that, but I guess I will have to keep trying to get through this thing. It is required for any scholarship opprotunities. It's what you would call a necessary evil I guess.
However, I have to say, fastweb.com is an amazing website. I have found about 50 different scholarships independent of the school I hope to attend, and am currently working on about 20 of them. Every little bit helps.
I just have one honest (and I think perfectly fair) request. Please please please, make make this scholarship thing easier to understand. Please do this for my sanity and the sanity of other frustrated and confused kids like me.
Scholarships?!?!

Hello everyone-
I'm new to this blog site and would like to provide some assistance for future college students and hopefully gain some scholarship money to help pay for medical school. Much like many bloggers commenting on the pains associated with applying for scholarhships, I too (6 years ago), felt like I was wasting my time applying for scholarship money. I thought to myself, why would they choose me out of the thousands of other qualified applicants? Well...after attending Penn State University for four years and racking up over $100K of debt, I realize now that I should have spent every chance I had applying for scholarships during my senior year of high school.
I was recently accepted to the University of Virginia for medical school and plan on spending as much time as possible over the next few months applying for every scholarship out there. If anyone has any helpful info in regards to scholarship money for medical school, please let me know. Also, if anyone out there has any questions about how to choose a college or how to make yourself competitive for medical school, please feel free to ask. Trust me, I learned everything the hard way, but now I can finally relax and look forward to beginning medical school this fall.
i agree! ive applied for like 100 scholarships, and i dont think im going to get a single one. i dont even know why ive been bothering with it, i guess the alure of free money is just too tough to resist. applying for scholarships leaves me feeling like ive been wasting the last 5 years of my life doing nothing useful and certainly nothing i can profit from now. oh well, i guess ill work 70 hrs a week this summer to pay for college. ew
Ha! I hear ya! I am soooo sick of doing scholarships. I think I have only done about 8 so far. I keep starting others and never getting a chance to finish through!!!! Its so frustrating. The cost of college is ridiculous.
Not to be a pessamist, but don't get your hopes up. The fastweb scholarships are next to impossible since everyone applies. Try looking for some local scholarships.
yeah I figured the fastweb stuff might be impossible, but it's worth a shot for college money. I am looking at a local scholarship for children of firefighters in my area, so hopefully that will work out.
This is why you start as early as possible. I'm 16, and I already wish I'd started earlier. Most of the schools I want to go to are going to be extremely expensive, but oh, well. Might as well try, right?
