Eagles' McNabb done for season Ill-fated QB tears ligament in knee

Favre hurts elbow, streak in jeopardy Nov. 20, 2006. 01:00 AM Donovan McNabb tore a ligament in his right knee yesterday and will miss the rest of the season, the third time in five years the Philadelphia Eagles will finish a campaign without their hard-luck quarterback.

The Eagles said McNabb, a five-time Pro Bowl selection in the midst of a possible career year, tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

"That's normally an eight-month-to-a-year injury," Eagles coach Andy Reid said, "so he's done for the year."

That puts McNabb's timetable for recovery anywhere between July and the middle of next season. "He's got some hard work ahead of him," Reid said. "He'll get after it."

STREAK IN JEOPARDY: Brett Favre, making his 251st consecutive start including playoffs, hurt a nerve in his right elbow late in the second quarter of Green Bay's 35-0 loss to New England. The quarterback's status for next Monday's night game at Seattle is unclear, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said.

"He took a shot on the elbow," McCarthy said. "He was not able to gain strength in his hand, as far as holding the football, controlling the football."

Favre was replaced by second-year quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but to make matters worse for the Packers, Rodgers was walking with a limp through the locker room after the game.

SPEED OF LIGHT: San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who scored four touchdowns against Denver last night, reached 100 career TDs faster than any player in NFL history.

Tomlinson, now with 102 TDs, reached the century mark in his 89th game, four faster than Jim Brown and Emmitt Smith.

GONE FOR SEASON: Oakland running back LaMont Jordan is likely out for the season with a serious injury to his left knee.

"Jordan's prognosis is that he tore his MCL (medial collateral ligament)," Raiders coach Art Shell said after the 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jordan was helped off the field in the first quarter after a 12-yard gain.

LITTLE EXTENSION: St. Louis defensive end Leonard Little said yesterday he has agreed to three-year contract extension and plans to finish his career with the Rams.

"This will be my last contract. I wanted it to be a good one," said Little, 32, whose nine-year career has all been with St. Louis.

STREAK ENDS: Matt Stover's streak of consecutive successful field goals ended at 36 when he missed a 42-yarder yesterday in the first quarter of Baltimore's game against Atlanta. Credit: Washington Post (picture) and thestar.com (article) MY POOR EAGLES!
