my boyfriend told me a very interesting story to me today and i would like to share it because of two things which i will get to in a bit. According to him the parents of his seventeen year old next door neighbor left for two weeks on vacation. The boy went to a party one of the nights that his parents where gone and came back around 5 in the morning.
A cop that is getting ready to get on his shift when the boy and his friend whip a corner right in front of him. The cop hurrys and gets in the car and turns on his lights to pull the two boys over. Trying to run away the boys lose control of the car and drive straight into a house.
The boy, who is in the passenger seat, gets out and trys to run away. Since his house is only a block away he makes it in, but soon after the cops show up. The boy has a deep gash on his arm and is all bruised up, my boyfriends dad says because he saw him being handcuffed when he was on his way to work.
All this happened because the parents left there son alone and because these boys where drinking and driving. We repeat history so much that i dont see much of a future. The parents should not have left there son alone and teenagers need to learn that drinking and driving = duhr da duhr.
its okay dad i wont run into a house or anything

Why are people so dumb. First mistake .. hes 17 come on grow up you still know that its wrong. And Drinking and driving .. um yeah hasnt anyone learned yet?
AND RUNNING FROM THE POLICE!!!! how dumb can a 17 year old actually be??
I object. My mom left me home alone when I was 10, and I turned out perfectly fine. I was left alone with my little sisters while my mom went out of town (she's a single mom) for 2-3 days. I drove them to daycare, went to school, came home, picked them up, cooked them dinner, put them to bed, and repeated the scenario again the next day. And since my little sister is like me and doesn't like getting up early in the morning, it was a pain.
This was all when I was 17, by the way.
Just because people who have never been given any freedom freak out when they get it doesn't mean that everyone is like that. And even my dumbest friends who go out and drink know better than to get in a car afterwards. They all usually crash in the house until they are sober enough to make it home.

Oh please, a 17-year-old kid can be left home alone. I mean, that's a year away from being 18 when he'd hopefully be LIVING on his own, so, wtf?
but oviously this kid couldnt. I think parents should be able to asess if there kids are responsible enough and im not blaming the parents because maybe he did think there kid was responsible but i am blaming it on drink driving and being dumb D3

Have you been a parent before? Just when you think you know what your kids can and can't do, they prove you wrong. Perhaps it was the first time the kid drank and drive. Freedom goes to peoples' heads very quickly. He obviously didn't know that he couldn't manage a car when drunk, so maybe he didn't have a lot of alcohol experience. It definitely can't be blamed on the parents. It's the kid.
