When was the last time you remember reading a book that you wanted to read?
A book that made you smile, laugh or cry.
A book that made you think, or take action.
Many, including myself may remember being read to as a child or participating in accelerated reading in grade school. Then in high school you had a lot of required books to read, and probably got in an occasional book that you chose. As college students our personal reading time is truly minimized. I did not realize how much I missed the way a good book makes you feel. There is something about cuddling up in your bed or by the fireplace with a story that you just can't put down. At the beginning of this school year I set a goal to try to read one book of my choosing every month. Sometimes it is hard to fit in between all the reading I do for my classes, but it is so worth it to put down those huge textbooks and pick up something a little bit lighter. I have read some books that I would have never found if I hadn't made it my goal to find thought -inspiring reads. Some of my picks this year have included Night by Elie Wiesel, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers and one of my new favorites Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
I challenge you all to make a trip to the library. Start recording your reads. Set goals for yourself, and see how many you can read. Not only is it a stress buster, but you may learn things that will help you in intellecutal conversations. You may not know this, but when you interview for graduate programs many interviewers ask about your favorite books or the books you have read recently...having several in your aresenal might help you later on. I am going to try to post little reviews on some of my favorites as I find them.
Happy Reading!

Last week...
Though I gave up on it, because it was boring the heck out of me. But I have another 3-4 books on my list to read next :).
And, you know, all the books currently in the Between the Lines column were read by me. Since October...

My new year resolution is to read a book every 2 days.
It is January 8th.
4 books down
Hope I can keep it up.
Yeah, I'd do that, except the books I read are usually at least 350 pages, and I'm not THAT fast of a reader. Plus I have to juggle school, work, family, my boyfriend, and this site in addition to my ECs, and reading. So maybe a book a week is more realistic for me.

350 pages is quite admirable.
My kids read books that have a lower page count.

I read for a living. (I analyze zoning codes of different jurisdictions across the united states and parts of Canada).... I tend to spend my off-work hours NOT reading.
However, I do listen to audio books.
I try to read for fun. It seems like I have no time, and when I have free time, I just want to veg. But I'm trying to read some books not assigned for school.
Wow restinpeace that is a great resolution. I can read a book in two days...I read two books over my winter break and read them both in two days...unfortunately now that I'm back to school its much harder to do that! Keep up the good work! Let me know if you read anything really good!

It is much easier to get them to read if I read more.

So many people just don't read. I blogged about America's reading habits a couple months ago--they're depressing. I'm making it a priority this year to read more--usually I get through 35-40 books a year, but I'd like to hit 50. Checking out book communities like The BookYouCrew on Livejournal provide a lot of inspiration. Good luck!

When was the last time I picked up a book that I actually wanted to read? Today. I read all the time for fun and I couldn't imagine the world without my books. I've got my own personal library. And people sending me books when they can't think of anything better for Christmas always works.
Currently reading: Crime and Punishment
Just Finished: I am America and So can you!
Next to read: Tropic of Cancer
