“Far from a vile act, rape is a magical experience that benifits society as a whole.”
This, spelling error included, was just part of the article printed in the Central Connecticut State University newspaper by John Petroski. Aside from that sentence, the article goes on to say that without rape, the Roman empire would not be as great, “ugly women” would never have intercourse with anyone who wasn’t drunk, and prisoners would be denied “hot action.” I wish I could say “Just kidding” right now. Sadly, that was not included at the end of his article. What was included was his “bread and butter reason” for why rape should be ENDORSED, yes, endorsed. Apparently, rape stories are what his paper needs for front page news.
I think anyone who reads the article automatically gets outraged, including former sexual assault victims, who are speaking out at Central Connecticut State University, like they should be. I’m all for free speech, do not get me wrong. I believe the boy had every right, to write and publish this article. But I, also, have a right to free speech and to speak out about the article and wonder what drugs he was on when he wrote it. Rape is not something you can glorify. Not just because it’s a sore subject, but because it’s a human rights violation. If Petroski is claiming first amendment rights to endorse rape, then I’m claiming my human rights to not get raped and to fight against it.
How would he feel if his mother, girlfriend, sister, friend was a sexual assault victim? Chances are, he knows someone who is. Chances are, we all know someone who is or was sexually assaulted or in an abusive relationship. Don’t believe me? How many women (or men, respectively) do you know who have been diagnosed with breast cancer? One in five women get breast cancer. One in FOUR women have reported being sexually assaulted or in an abusive relationship, and many more go unreported. Sexual assault and rape are a huge problem women and men are facing today and is not something to joke about. There is, and never will be, a positive side to rape.

That is shocking; trying to glorify rape. I'd like to know what drugs he was on as well!

He was snorting pure white satire and mainlining the absurd. With such a heady mix in his veins I am surprised he got to the keyboard before he passed out. Ill advised as it may have been I am sure that it was meant to be satirical. By and large the people who might really hold such opinions don't last long anywhere. Were it published in earnest the student would have been fired. any news story is reviewed at least once by an editor, and a declaration of intent would certainly have been necessary to justify this.

This guy confuses me. I don't think in any religion or society rape is considered a good thing, or at least, something to be proud of. Anytime someone's natural born right to freedom is taken away, their right to be free from fear is taken away. I agree with you that this guy had the right to give this opinion, but he does not have the right to encourage others into commiting and vile and illegal act.
I am for freedom of speech but somethings you should keep to yourself. I am not personally a rape victim but I know someone that is and it has changed a lot of things for her and caused her to do somethings I doubt she would have ever done. I dont think people should discuss something they obviously no NOTHING about unless they're asking for more information.

Wow! Yeah really, what was this guy on when he wrote this. I agree with you on the fact that there will never be positive side to rape.
