I was just wondering why it is that the United Negro College Fund is not considered racist?
If there was a United Caucasian College fund it would be considered racist, would it not?
I am not a racist person, but I do believe that fair is fair. I thought that the NAACP was an organization that preserved human rights, an organization that tried to make the African American community equal with the Caucasian community. It seems as though they lost the idea of fair. Here is a list of things that are considered fair:
Jet Magazine
BET (Black Entertainment Television)
Mrs. Black America
Now if any one of these organizations were for “whites only,” wouldn’t somebody call that racist?
Just recently Broadcaster Kelly Tilghman from the Golf Channel learned that a bad choice of words these days can really cost you. She made a comment that the only way to beat Tiger Woods would be to gang up on him and lynch him in an alley way. She did not make this reference because of his race, and he knows this! She apologized and he said it was ok he knows she didn’t mean it maliciously. Apparently Al Sharpton has nothing better to do then get her fired!
COME ON! ENOUGH!
Racism is somewhat just an individual perception. Depending on the environment that an individual grew up in, that person can learn to dislike the color black or white. If that individual dislike the color black, naming something black would be unacceptable.
In our society, the United States as a society had a history of issue when it come to color. That is our environment. Because many people have been brought up as thinking that naming something white will offend the black community, we do not support a name that will include the word white. In a way, we start to consider white people to be racist and that black people isn't which isn't true. Also, in the history of the United States the word "white" had been use to segregate black and white which led to a revolution.
Because the word "white" in the past had been use to segregate people, it now has a negative impact if it were to be use. The word "black" however have never been use in a way that was as negatively dramatic as the word "white".
It's in a way best to consider that by not using the word white as a name in an organization, we are being considerate to the black community.
As I say, it is somewhat perception and this is my. Of course there are numerous other variable also.

Jet Magazine
Have you looked in any non race specific magazines lately? If you have you've probably noticed that the vast majority of the people in them are white. These magazines don't specifically advertise themselves as being for a primarily white audience, but that'spretty much what they are. That's why there is a JET magazine. Sometimes when a Black person opens a magazine, he or she wants to see himself or herself (and not just as dealers and baby mamas)
BET (Black Entertainment Television)
Same as with JET magazine. This is one of the few stations that aren't White dominated. Why can't we have one channel? There are about as many White people on BET as there are Black people on any other major station. Are you opposed to Telemundo, WE(Women's Entertainment), TBN(Trinity Broadcasting Network), Al Jazeera, etc?

Personally, I, and a lot of Black people, could care less if there was a WET, a magazine for whites, a Ms. America for Whites, etc. White people pretty much already have those things under a different name.

Blacks need something to help them get ahead of what white people have always had available. For years and still today blacks are unequal no matter how you look at it and if you are white you will never understand. Just think about this why aren't there as many black people in college as white people thats because of the limited funds and access to those funds. So to say that its racist to have a fund just for blacks is not looking at the picture as a whole, why do blacks need a fund just for them? A fund is needed for blacks because we were held back for so long that it has stopped us from accomplishing certains things that has come easy for white people.
