I have many reasons for being absolutelly disgusted with America and the many races of people who live here. I have seen people get mad at their cashier at the store for simply doing thier job. I have seen people here on progressive u reach out about their life and problems and seen some responses very close to " noone cares, and your just stupid". It is because of people like this that make my work life hard. I work at a local retail store and I have litterally had customers be so mean to me that it was all I could do to choke my tears back.
I have litterally watched people at walmart watch a young child fall and cut herself and walk right by laughing. I have been insulted in front of my managers at work and while I was choking back my tears I watched as they ( all of them) walked right by and said nothing. It is because of this that I am saying to all of you people who do that to your poor cashier just trying to make a living or walk right by a crying person and laugh or choose not to care I am Giving you the official ( Make the World Worse AWARD). I hope that one day someone will say something to you that makes u look back at your life and ethically smack yourself in the face. Since I am so angry Im going to stop But I want you to know that I despise you and hope that you realise that you are a burden to society and a complete waste of space.
Now since I have covered the worst people now I will talk about the few people who are what I call "Society's Angels". For one example I was in tears at my register while my customer called me some very bad names because I couldnt make a price adjustment for 90% off her bill. A customer from another line was leaving and stopped at my register while she was cussing and danming me to hell and said " Hey why dont you give her a break she's just doing her job", the rude lady said "why dont you mind your own buisness" the Nice lady said, " this is my buisness I shop here" I finished her order and got her on her way. She said to the lady "go F yourself lady" The lady told her in not nice words to basically lick her butt and go jump off a building. Now while this isnt the best way to solve my problem I was very grateful that for once in my carreer at least one person stood up for me a complete stranger had enough compassion to say something.
TO all the people who pick up that little girl who falls or are just decent to your cashier at the store, To all of you who do the right thing no matter what I want to thank you!
It is because of you that my life is bearable. It is because of people like you that I have the inspiration to work, go to college and work my way up to make a difference in society just like you! Thank you Societys Angels. May your life be filled with the love and happyness that you bring to us who society treats like scum. Thank you for reading.

You may be interested in the livejournal community (I think you have a livejournal) Customer's Suck. It is a great outlet for bad work days.
I've worked retail. I've had a customer try to jump the counter to hit me because I wouldn't accept his check without proper ID. I've had people come in the back, very not public door 2 hours before we opened wanting something. I know these aren't exactly normal, everyday experiences while working retail, but dealing with people driven by their own sense of entitlement is.
And you're probably working in one of those places where management bends over backwards to reward adults for worse-than-2-year-old behavior (I wasn't and customers got a little attitude from me when needed, but I understand that it's rare to be able to work for these businesses). You really just have to grow tough skin and move on. It's pretty much all you can do sometimes. It sucks, but that's the life of retail.
Good luck!

Just remember, you do have the right to refuse service to any customer, especially if you're feeling physically threatened (and if you feel physically threatened, you also have the right to call the cops).
My husband works for a large retail chain and has on numerous occasions escorted people out. He's probably also signed about 4 "no trespass" warrants in the past six months or so. He's even had a guy about two or three times his size try to chase him down (the guy broke one of the counters in the process).
When they start getting out of hand, you can simply tell them that you no longer feel comfortable working with them and they can try to find someone else to help them because you are refusing service, and walk away. If you are a cashier, close your register and find your manager. Explain to your manager what happened, then let them handle it.
You have the legal right to refuse service to any customer, and if they try to fire you for it, then you can press charges for compensation, as long as your refusal is not based on something protected (race, gender, religion, etc), especially at a place like Wal-Mart that does, in fact, have such a policy (my husband is on the receiving end of such policy at the Wal-Mart next door to where he works thanks to what basically amounts to conflict of interest).
Here's an example right to refuse service policy that shows good examples of when employees can invoke their right to refuse service.
