Today, an expert warned that flu vaccines may just be a big waste of time and money. All over the world, public policy recommends the use of inactivated influenza vaccines (containing dead viruses) to prevent seasonal outbreaks. Influenza viruses mutate from year to year, and even more often, making it difficult for scientists to study the effectiveness of the vaccines. Systematic reviews show that inactivated flu vaccines have very little effect, if an, on objectives such as improving the amount of time spent in the hospital or off of work, and deaths from the flu and complications of the flu. The difficulty in determining whether one has the flu or a flu-like illness added to the confusion. Some people believe that the influenza vaccines work well for them, whereas others feel like it is a complete waste of time and money. I don't recall ever getting a flu shot in my life, and I've only gotten the flu once or twice. So, I really don't see any reason for me to go get flu shots. I am curious what other people have experienced w/ or w/o flu shots though. So, if you have any thoughts, please comment!
