Universal Health Care

There are few things that set off warning sirens in my head as much as the idea of universal health care. If people on this website are as scared of an Orewellian-state as I read about, this should send shivers down their spines.

Just think: the government, controlling the means to your physical well-being. Does anyone consider the possibilities such a route holds? Forget your conspiracy theories on the War on Terror. Forget your conspiracy theories about world domination. Forget all that, and think on the specter of universal health care. That one thing alone could endanger all of your rights in the future.

Just think: a government looking for a means to "persuade" people to accept an unpopular policy. What could they do with a weapon such as universal health care? If you fear an intrusive government, why isn't there more fear about this? This fear would hold a lot more water than most of the ones I've seen.

Just think: a loss of competition in medicine. True, the drug companies do overcharge their products. I know this from first-hand experience. True, insurance companies aren't as reliable or as affordable as they should be. But the biggest thing they would have over a government-run health care system is competition. The drugs are among the best made in the world. That's what capitalism affords. Without competition, I fear the drugs would become less effective.

Just think: would you rather try and reform the current system and keep the drugs at a high potency level, and keep the government from controlling an important part of your existence? Or would you rather try the universal health care approach? Give some feedback.

I don't think the government should control what they do now or at least get some new people to do it better. I definately don't think they should control healthcare.

Definitely not.
