We Have Progressed!

Have you ever watched an old TV show where the boy was so in love with the girl that he would give her a pin and it was known as going steady? Things have definately changed. It has become mor common for the girl to ask the guy out and the date can be going anywhere, doing anything. We have progressed to finding "the one" on online dating sites, chat rooms, AIM, myspace, and facebook.
In high school, I have observed that many relationships started through a text message. "Oh my God! Guess who texted me last night!" More often that not, the couple tells each other that they like or "love" the other over a text. It is more common now to flirt over a text message or on AIM. How stupid is that? Why can't we just say what we feel to each other's faces? I have no problem with people who start texting, but then not really dating afterwards is rediculous. Especially when you both know you like each other.
We have become so connected to the media and have gone wireless that we forget what it feels like to have a conversation or a relationship face to face. I know people who have broken up over the internet, which I believe is inconsiderate. Many of my friends fight with their boyfriends over text messages. Is this really healthy? Just pick up the phone and talk. I know many times I go to my Facebook and see who is dating who. I like to say that, "it's not official until it's on Facebook."
I guess for some people, meeting someone online can be a real life changer. My brother found his wife on a dating website. They now have a kid and they are very happy. But this isn't always the case. Some people meet people they think are great, only for them to be a predator.
I wish people would just have a normal relationship, but this is now normal.

I remeber a girl telling me she liked my friends online personality better than his actual one. I think we need cyber condoms, for all those have unprotected cybersex.
