Since China is the strongest communist country, and the
United States is the strongest capitalist power as well as the only superpower in the world, many conflicts exist between the countries. One of the most important conflicts is
Taiwan issue. Taiwan is an important military point for
United States. From Japan, Taiwan to South Asia is the first Island-Chain for keeping China from
Pacific Ocean. U.S. is using Taiwan to pull down
China's developing. Last month,
Taiwan government announced it is going to authority to cease the functioning of the "National Unification Council" and application of the "National Unification Guidelines".
Taiwan president Chen is taking risk to challenge the one-China principle. He is testing both China and the
United States. If Mainland really use force on Taiwan, will U.S. fight for
Taiwan? It is doubtable. I don't think
U.S. is willing to take the risk of fighting against a country with nuclear weapons and submarines just for a small island. Under pressure, it is more likely that U.S. exchange Taiwan with
China for something benefit for itself. Maybe a better trade policy or support for U.S. fights at Iraq or the next war against
Iran. Unification is the only way so solve
Taiwan issue. Nobody wants a war, but if the leaders of
Taiwan want to risk their people's lives on independence, using force may not be avoidable.

"Unification is the only way so solve Taiwan issue."
I disagree.
The issue here isn't what Taiwan's leaders want. The issue is what the people of Taiwan want and they do not want unification. The one-China policy is kind of true. There is China and there is Taiwan. Mr. Chen is not challenging the one-china policy.
Are you suggesting is that the rights of 23 million Taiwanese be suppressed so that this Taiwan issue can be resolved? Have you not read about Tibet and how badly the "unification" or some would call it invation was there?
China does not represent the people of Taiwan and it cannot speak on behalf of Taiwanese people. On the otherhand, leaders in Taiwan were elected democratically so they do have some right in representing Taiwanese people.
The two committees you that were canceled are merely tokens with no function. There are several other similar groups being canceled but you obviously do not hear about them.
The Taiwan situation interests more than just China and US. Japan is very much involved in the process as well. Seeing as 80% of Japan's oil travels through the Taiwan straight, Japan has a lot to lose if China obtains complete control of that straight if they take over Taiwan. The Luzon straight right below Taiwan is also another major trade artery. If Taiwan is taken over by China, both bodies of water can technicaly be claimed by China as their jurisdiction.
First thing I want to say is I NEVER cancel any committee! I havn't even logged in after I posted this. Who did it I don't know.
Second thing is you are saying China does not represent the people of Taiwan. It just like you are saying United States do not represent the people of California. It's funny.
If you are saying China suppressed terrorist at Tibet is 'invation', then what is U.S. doing at Iraq? "unification"??
Third thing is please don't ever mention Japs. They have nothing to do in China. They lost the war 60 years ago. Their bloody hands still hold 20,000,000 Chinese soul. They will lost again if they get into it this time, even if they being the dog of Sam.
I'm Taiwanese and I'm sorry to say that I found your post very saddening. The democratic government in Taiwan has been ruling independentlyl for half a century since the PRC took over China.
California can in no way be compared to the Taiwan-China relationship. Instead, as the the current situation stands, the relationship between Singapore and Malaysia would be a closer comparison. I highly doubt Singaporeans would appreciate it if people claimed that Singapore was a 'state' of Malaysia. I don't know where you get your information or your viewpoint. Do you have a friend from China? I've met Chinese from mainland china who insist that Taiwan is a part of China because that's what their government has taught them since birth. I've also met some rational Chinese who don't believe everything their government feeds them.
taiwan is one part of china, that is absolutely true.
we can take it back any time if nessasery.
maybe taiwanness do not thinck they are chinese,
but taiwan is chinese land,it must be taken
sha bi mei guo ren
Agree.
Is Californians American??
I don't think so.
The US is Taiwan's biggest ally, but do you think no one else would jump to Taiwan's aid if China invades?
No one wants to see this go to war, but if it does, which side do you think Britian, France, Germany, Canada, Italy, Spain, etc. will be on?
A Chinese-Taiwan war would bring the Asian economic area to a standstill.
no point in calling people stupid. its just another person's opinion. why would other nations jump into a conflict between taiwan and china? China plays a big part in the world's economy. Not many nations would risk going to war against it. And you also forgot the fact that china is not without allies.
I do agree that the U.S may stand back if China really uses force in Taiwan. It is not worth to create a tension between U.S and China.
Besides, I do believe that unifacation is also the desire of most Taiwanese.
Agree. Nobody wants to see WW3.
But if U.S. want to fight, China won't panic.
China is not Iraq or Afghanistan.
U.S. lost in Korea, in Vietnam. It wants to win in China? Kidding me.
I don't know where you're getting information on unification being the desire of most Taiwanese, or it is, as you say, a belief. It's untrue, however. If in the past less people in Taiwan spoke of independence, it's because we don't want to bother stating a known fact - Taiwan is already independent, it is in no way ruled by the PRC, so there's no need to talk about it or change the pretended 'status-quo'. We're happy, we're prosperous. End of story.
But China wouldn't let it be the end of the story. Recently China has become more and more aggressive in it's attempt to stifle our voice, to exclude us from international activities. They even ban our national anthem from being played in the olympics and their officials snatch our flags from us in award ceremonies. This has become more than annoying- it's become offensively, disrespectfully mean.
Another reason I would not like to be a PRC citizen is the fact that I wouldn't be able to talk to you like this if I were. Ever wonder why there's no one in China blogging on here speaking in opposition to their government when there's tons of people bad-mouthing Bush? Anyone Chinese citizen who could be criticizing the PRC administration aren't currenly in China.
I'm currently in Taiwan.
I doubt anyone really cares.
thank you for posting this blog. I had no idea that tension between china and the u.s. continues.
Taiwan is the Republic of China. China is the People's Republic of China. Both governments claim to rule for China. This is just like North Korea and South Korea. There was no peace treaty signed between the two. North Korea still claims dominion over South Korea even though they do not.
Taiwan, in the last few decades, tried to tone down their rhetoric so that they do not provoke the mainland, but quite a large number of free Chinese all over the free world thinks of Taiwan as the place where the true Chinese government exists. And in fact, if you want to see true Chinese culture today, only Taiwan carries on old Chinese traditions.
