Lockdown!

"Attention students, we are going on lockdown mode, please go inside the nearest class room and stay indoors, lock all doors and windows"...this is what our school heard today after school. There was a lot of commotion and students thought it was a joke, but we still stayed indoors. Nobody really knew what was going on, we thought it was just a drill, little did we know, someone had a gun in the campus parking lot. Then the guy with the gun took off in a car so we got out of lockdown mode...just about ten minutes laters, we had to be on lockdown mode again because another car with other guys that had guns came....this time we were on lockdown mode for about an hour and the school officers came in searching the classes just incase the guys with guns were there. After a while they called off the lockdown...we dont really know what happened to the people with the guns, but many students left right after the lockdown

Are campuses really safe? With this lockdown mode, i think they're pretty much safe for the students, its a good way to stay safe....but what if something went wrong? what about the students that arent informed?

I would say schools are pretty safe and lockdowns are great! After the VT attack, my university they had all the students send their phone numbers in and if anything every happened they send us a text message to warn us. It really does help. It's just an alert, maybe you should suggest that to your school.

thats pretty interesting about the texting...a very good way to be informed

That must have been scary... sorry that happened.
I don't think campuses are ever really going to be safe, at least not as long as we still have our civil liberties. Yes, if you spot someone with a gun the campus can go into lockdown, but if that guy with a gun really wanted to he could sneak onto your campus and have a shootout before anyone saw the gun. I think the answer lies in education and counselling, not lockdown and gun control (though the latter certainly does help and I wouldn't want to see either abolished)

Students are pretty safe because everyone's absolutely going nuts about shootings. You're more likely to die in a car crash, stop worrying.
