Why not take the time and write something informative? And while you're at it, check your spelling, too!
The purpose of ProgressiveU is to have discussions about issues. Believe it or not, most people don't want to read a 200-word post about your weekend, so please don't publish these kinds of posts just for the sake of accruing points for the scholarship, because it probably won't count anyway.
I know (I can FEEL it!) that all of you can write a coherent blog post that is interesting and informative. It's important because other people are taking the time to read your posts, so why not reciprocate, and put in the time to write a decent blog? I know that this isn't English class, but I recommend you utilize what you've learned from your classes here, too. So please check your grammar and spelling.
I generally do a little research on the subject I'm writing a blog about, so that I'm not just ranting about something that's off the top of my head. Therefore, if you're citing a little known fact, you can refer your readers to the source you got it from. Remember; it's not up to your reader to research the merits of your posts or provide you with facts simply because you're too lazy to look things up. Please do your best to make sure that the information in your post is factually accurate. This is important even if you're writing an opinion piece.
As a side note: the comments on this site have gotten increasingly contentious, and perhaps slightly uncivil. You must expect that if you're writing on a topic that is controversial in nature, people are going to disagree with you, so deal with it gracefully. This doesn't mean that someone who disagrees with your viewpoint absolutely hates your guts; so it's not really necessary to approach someone who disagrees with you in a combatative manner. So arguing about particular issues is completely kosher, but personally attacking a commenter or making fun of someone isn't okay. Likewise, calling someone an illegal immigrant or a communist sympathizer because of their views is slanderous (unless the person actually says "I'm an illegal immigrant," or "I am a communist sympathizer"), and isn't tolerated.
Happy blogging!

if you're advising people to check their grammar and spelling, you might want to as well.
"write a correhent blog"
Coherent maybe?
Yeah, it would help if I led by example. Thanks for catching that, though.
